GIG UPDATE -Any suggestions/tips for St. Pattys Day painting at bars/bashes?

Hi All,

I'm thinking I shouldn't let St. Patty's Day pass without trying to get some work at some bar bash. I noticed, the few times I went out myself, that people are wearing beads, crazy hats, etc...decorating themselves....AND they're usually drunk lol, so maybe people would love to be painted in a bar at a party for the day. I searched but didn't find any previous threads.

Can anyone who does it tell me what are the best/most profitable places to do it at? We have some Irish pubs in our area. Of course I'm starting there. But places like Fridays and Applebees, etc also are having parties at their bars. Also, for anyone who paints at the bars, what's a good price that patrons might go for, if it's PPF? Do you bring a St. Pattys Day board or just go for anything they want? Any suggestions are helpful! Thanks.

I paint and do glitter tatts at a local Irish Bar/Restaurant called Meghan MacMurphy's. They have young Irish Step dancers come in and perform for a few hours at dinner time...then the partying starts when they leave. It's a lot of fun... People tip well when they're tipsy!

Thanks Ronnie! That's what I figured...when people are putting lots out for drinks all night, they won't be cheap adding more fun to their night. I'm thinking of maybe $8. face (like 2 drinks price). Anyone think it should be lower or does this sound good? It looks like I might have gotten a gig already! At a big, packed Irish pub. They said it gets jammed, they even open the outdoors. Spoke with the bartender/manager, she has to talk with the owner later when he comes in, but she said she thinks he will say yes! Wish me luck!!!

Nobody really wants anything but Irish themed stuff... Make a "club" eye design for women all with greens an golds...

I went looking on Pinterest for inspiration. I didn't look for face painting designs though just Irish or St. Patty in general.

I'm doing a restaurant the day before for the holiday. I'm going to add a "Kiss Me I'm Irish" design to my few designs. I think I might also add some green mustaches. I'm still coming up with stuff.

Thanks everyone!!! UPDATE!!!! The Irish pub hired me...11 am (for the lunch crowd) till CLOSING (very late)!!! It's one of the biggest, busiest places on St. Patty's Day in the Hudson Valley, it's right on the water of the Hudson River. I'm super excited. I'll be painting PPF at $8. per face (they said their customers will pay that easily) and I'll get the late drinking crowd too, which I hear is mostly young kids!!! I don't have to pay anything back to the pub, they just think it's fun to add it to their restaurant on that day. It's also "restaurant week" on that strip by the Hudson, so it should be a great gig. For anyone else thinking of St. Patty's Day...go for it...I got this JUST by making a phone call and giving them my website to look at.

My gigs are paid (the club hires me) which I prefer and it usually fairly late.

I'd rather have it that way too Shannon, I do other corporate gigs where the place pays me, not PPF. But I think this will work out in the end just because of the sheer volume of drunk people there, lol, and at least there's no fee for me to be there. Will give an update after St. Patty's Day!

Yay! I got the call back yesterday and TJ Mulligans is letting me set up.
I pitched it as free entertainment.
Maybe one day they will pay me to be there, but I'm cool with it this way for now. I'll be charging per face and have my electronic tip jar out.

I'm taking my hubby as helper/moneybags/bodyguard.
I'll let y'all know how we do.

OMG, Diane, I'm so glad my thread inspired you to call and you got it!!!!! Good luck, tell the results after St. Patty's Day! Yes, I'm doing it the same way, but have a feeling I'll do well there and make a good amount of money. People are telling me this place gets insane on St. Patty's Day! I bought extra green paints, I was afraid if it's really busy, I could run out!
