NEED FEEDBACK!

I have been asked to donate my time for an event put on by of ALL people the an art gallery! Please read my response and let me know what you think!

Thank you very much for the offer. As an artist myself I am only able to donate my time and supplies to a few events during the year and those even have already been spoken for. My supplies and time are very costly. My supplies top quality and body safe and I am fully insured both in face paints and in henna body art. I also have to include the travel costs and babysitting fees.

I am willing however to reduce my fees for worthy causes such as yourself to for corporate events by 30%. I would hope that a great supporter of the arts such as the XXX would understand that to continue to donate to every cause would devalue the arts in such a way that I am unable to contribute to.

Honestly? Do it or don't. You can explain that you can't afford to donate your whole fee and that you're willing to give them a discount. But skip the lecture. It sounds both condescending and unprofessional -- does your doctor explain to you that her fee has to include enough money for babysitting?

I agree partially with Jenny. Remind them that you are an artist and that donating "face painting services" is more than just donating "time". But skip any and all mention of babysitting - you lose your professionalism. Additionally, don't keep reminding them that they are patrons of the arts.
