I am wanting to start a small but decent SFX kit, what are the essentials that I should have in it? I searched but couldn't find a thread on this. There should be an SFX/gore section here. scratch

Latex
Bruise Wheel
Burn/Gore Wheel
Kleenex
Scab Blood
Dark Blood
Runny Blood

That is my basic SF/X kit. I sometimes add pine nuts or rice as maggots in necrotic flesh.

Happy Painting!

I have been doing a bit of "gore" with just paint and stage blood and I love it so much that I want to experiment with more! There is a pretty big haunted house like a block from me and I think I could get some work there if I get good... Here are a few pics of what I did today. I posted them somewhere else to, sorry if you see them more than once.

Please give me your honest feedback and tips if you have them! I really learn from everyone's thought...thanks for the kit run down Lisa and Lizzie!

Erica, I am (as usual) impressed! What color red are you using there? I have heard that both Paradise red (not Beach Berry) and Wolfe red make good "old" and "new" blood respectively.

Dear Erica's Funny Faces:
If your blood splatter was a little darker and the shape patterns a more random pattern, I believe you would lose what you perceive to be as cartoony.

Happy Entropy!

I have a bruise kit and i have had it for over 10 years...they only cost about 6 to 8 dollars but they last forever...and the bruises you can make with them...a black eye in a matter of minutes...I also buy scars some times and when the latex dries you use the bruise kits around the edges and the blood gel...thats about it

Dear Miss Ronnie,
You are NOT to be pitied.
You are a smart, funny, talented woman with an amazing sense of humor. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of men on the FacePaintForum looking for a woman with a tramp stamp across her bootie.
Maybe you should have thought of that BEFORE you got the tattoo.
(Here I go again....
harshing someone's mellow regarding a tattoo.)

As a face painter, I can't help but notice, now that you have inadvertently pointed it out...
face painting as a profession is not a business that puts us in contact with eligible possible mates. We are admired for our art, not our bodies or personality.

I do not think you need to change professions in order to get out to meet somebody. I know that the right person will not show up in your living room... or they would have done it by now.

You do not need a man to have sex.

Although,
SFX
will always crack me up,
because of you!

Happy Painting, my sassy, smart, beautiful, wise, funny fellow face painter.

Any other face painters know an eligible date for Miss Ronnie around Syracuse New York?

Ronnie, I was alone for 12 years before I met Mark. I know what it's like! I was very OK with being on my own as it bet the heck out of being with the wrong person. I figured I'd be alone the rest of my life....then out of the blue... I love you

Amen to that!
I'm sorry I'm a married woman living in the Netherlands, because if I was a single man living in your neighbourhood, i'd ask you on a date!
Of course in that case I would be a very handsome, tall, smart, considerate, man... Razz

Ok so the blood I used dried kind of scabby and much darker than pictured here, it is graftobian stage blood. I am trying to put my order together but I am a bit confused by all the different bloods lol almost as confusing as o- and a+ and so forth! What "type" is the graftobian that I currently have and what are some recommendations for the other "types" Scab Blood, Dark Blood, Runny Blood? Also would love some recommendations for the Latex, Bruise Wheel and the Burn/Gore Wheel or are they all pretty much the same?

I have the Kryolan bruise wheel and I really like it. It has six colors and it's grease paint, so you can really move it around.

I'm loving this thread because I want to start doing some SFX, too. I just have to stop buying face paint...

Erica this was done with elmers glue and toilet paper single ply...but liquid latex would be better you put a thin layer of latex add toliet paper..and just keep adding till you get the cut like you want it...then use the bruise kit and add blood.. you tube has some great videos on these kids of cut.

I decided I am going to wait until the weather is a bt better before I order the latex/glue because I don't want to pay the shipping fees and it will freeze otherwise. I ordered a 30 color paradise pallet instead. I like how it looks with the glue though. Did it hold up pretty well?
