Top three designs
What three painting designs pleases girls the most?
What three painting designs pleases boys the most?

Re: Top three designs
Is there a majority of designs asked for? Most girls ask me for butterflies the most. Boys ask me for snakes, dragons and Spiderman the most.
Re: Top three designs
It actually varies a lot by region...
Butterflies, unicorns and cats of various descriptions for girls
Tigers, skulls, and dragons/dinos for the boys
But it changes depending on which display I have up!!

Butterflies, Tigers and Spiderman. Then skulls, cats and dogs for me. And because I have lots of rainbow cakes, lots of rainbows!
Re: Top three designs
Even with my display, I still get asked for something not on the displays.
Younger boys in the midwest like spiderman, dragons, bugs, snakes.
Younger girls out here ask for butterflies, princess stuff, anything that glitters.
I would like to add, the teenagers (both boys and girls) lately have been asking for vapire, bites, and I love Edward or Jacob. The Twilight books are rather big here especially with the next movie coming out around Thanksgiving. I am actually looking forwad to requests that are influenced by the next Harry Potter movie for some variety.

Re: Top three designs
Oddly... I never get asked for "movie" designs... sure I get Transformers, Hulk, etc. but not in relation to the release of new movies.

Re: Top three designs
Spiderman tops all for me... then tigers, then puppies, then butterflies,... at least for full faces....
a lot of smaller things end up being common for me because they are cheaper: snakes, small butterflies with flowers, princess crowns, and dragons.

Re: Top three designs
Spiderman, batman and ogres for boys. (Because those are the coolest boy designs on my board.)
Butterflies, princess crowns and pink tigers for girls. Butterflies most popular of all, by a long shot.
I don't get asked for a whole lot of stuff that isn't on my board.

Re: Top three designs
If a child tells me they want a difficult design I can not paint I answer to them, "I am a magician, not a clown."
Re: Top three designs
Funny!
I actually went a 9 hour Saturday and didn't paint a single butterfly! Wierd.
I agree with Angie. They'll ask for what's on the menu. I'll even tell people looking at my board that I take requests, but they pick a picture.
Boys: Spiderman, Dragon, Ogre
Girls: Butterfly, Kitty, Fancy Eye Art

I've gotten quite a few girl - Pink Spiderman Requests. Butterflies, Flowers, Cat Cheek art and Cat Faces for girls.
For Boys: Hulk, Spidey ( I AM SO SICK OF SPIDERMAN!), Owl, Shark
Agree with the fact that they "order from the menu" when you have a board up.... so to speak.

Re: Top three designs
My top three are Tigers (boys and girls), the Serpent face (boys AND girls), and TKD/Karate guys flying throught air (Boys and girls)...girls just want more glitter on it and sparklie star shapes.
Then there are the butterflies....girls only...no boy requests yet! I get a few 'helm' request now for the boys.

Re: Top three designs
I have actually done a few boy butterflies... I usually try to convince them to at least get "boy colours" but often you can't dissuade those boys from the pink and purple butterfly... if the parent's don't care then neither do I. Most of the parents try to talk them into something a little more "boy oriented" though.
Re: Top three designs
Haha, I was painting at Ikea ages ago, and a boy gets into my chair. I rattle off some boy designs, and he keeps saying no. His mom laughs and says, "oh, just tell her what you want!" Then to me: "he really likes butterflies and fairies." He ended up with a hot pink full-face butterfly, and his parents were totally cool with it, which was awesome.
One dad wasn't nearly as okay - at a party, his son desperately wanted to be a princess, and tried to convince me that on the way to the party (when they didn't even know there was face painting!), he'd decided and his dad said okay. I told him to ask one more time, and there was a resounding "NO!" from across the backyard.

Re: Top three designs
Here's my ogre... super quick and easy. I saw this somewhere else - not an original idea.
Re: Top three designs
I've found that a combination of whatever I'm wearing on my face plus the first two designs I do at a party become the most sought after for the rest of the gig.
The wierdest party I did this year was one where NO girl would allow their faces painted! They ranged in age from 7 - 10. They were all about painting their arms. Go figure.

Re: Top three designs
Yesterday- I had my big book with me and everybody wanted spiderman, batman, or spongebob, or blue on their hands no faces, even the girls. Finally there was one tween who was so helpful with the little kids that I did an original piece on her arm heart with wings and flowers/swirls/glitter and she was so impressed and proud.
You just never know what you are walking into. I try to steer the crowd with the book I set up but I am always ready to improv.
