Wolfe Black to love or not to love Empty Wolfe Black to love or not to love

Post by LoriSamson Thu May 24, 2012 3:03 am

I got my 90gm Wolfe black in today and I used it at my gig tonight and found it got goopy right away. I did a search here on Wolfe black and read that most everyone tought it was great and disliked the TAG brand. How it was discribed (the TAG) was excatly what the Wolfe was doing for me. My Tag black had been great. It's never gotten goopy even after a long event. The White did once but only once. This black started doing it after only a few kids. I tried using more water but that only made it worse and clumped up on my brush. Was I reading the old threads wrong or has the products changed in the last year? I sure wish I wouldn't have ordered the 90gm! It's going to take months to use up 90gms!No

Hi Lorisamson.....Wolfe, Tag and DFX have the same ingredients and all work the same, I would say your Wolfe paint is very fresh , If you leave the lid off at all times and don't use so much water it will work better for you.
Too much water will always make these brand paints goopy.
I have two pots of black and two of white ( as they are used the most) and if the cake gets goopy i will swap over , now that I use less water I do find I have only needed to use the one cake.
Hope this is of some help. Smile

I have had that problem too. Try making a well in the middle by smooshing it with your fingers, then add extra water to the well so you have a more liquid paint consistency. Tweak it till you get the consistency right. that's what I do anyways Very Happy

I think I saw your thread on FB...

Wolfe/DFX/TAG are pretty much the same paint. Poke a hole in the center & create a well. Drip a bit of water into the well & swish around w/ your brush till you have the right consistency. Load your brush from the well. You probably didn't encounter the problem yet, but any of those brands will have the same issue if you use too much water.

My Wolfe can get a little goopy/sticky after an hour of painting in the heat. But even when it does get like that, I still get lovely clean lines from it.

Making a well in it should help. I personally don't have a hole in my cake, but I find it pretty easy to work with without it.

It must be that it is newer than my Tag and DFX. I tried them side by side and the TAG and DFX reacted and dried the same. The Wolfe was still shiny and creamy. I do use the well/hole method naturally. I don't keep my lids on so my TAG and DFX have had months of staying dry. I did line work with all of them and I actually liked the Wolfe a bit better. The creaminess glided over the skin smoother. Sooooo... I'm on the fence still as to which I like best. I think the Wolfe is just really fresh and I need to get use to it. I just never had my black go goopy on me (thinking)...maybe I'm the one who is goopy...scratch

LOL!

I'm learning that each face paint has a different technique to make it work best. Once you learn them, most are great & just work different for different situations. I have some paints that I love for only face painting & others for only body painting. I actually have 4 different whites depending on what I want to do with it. Yes, I'm a bit of a face paint addict Very Happy

Linda, you are not alone in your addiction. I too have multiple whites (Wolfe, TAG, Paradise, and Snaz plus Wolfe metallic white). Is there a 12 step program for face painters? No

Well, I'm soon to be considered an addict. I got my first Paradise this week because I'm doing an art gig tomorrow at our town square and will be doing a 'living canvas' body painting (what can be legally exposed...G rated). I am soooooo in love with the blending abilities I have with them. I heard they were good but.... wow...weee, I'm loving them! I posted a pic at FB's Face painter's gallery of the Wolfe black and there IS a visible difference in them. I still can't post pics here... arrgg I offically gave up trying. (wearing dunce hat) The black dries shiny and the TAG dries matt. I'm kinda liking the shiny look, though. Linda, You're so right about need to adjust to the different paints. I have a complete case of TAG so I only know TAG. Can we all say... "Stuck in a rut"? Anyway, I'm doing better today with it and I've adjusted the amount of water I use. I was used to spraying my paints constantly. (high altitude and very dry here)

I've used DFX, Wolfe, and TAG. I've gone back to my Wolfe white and black. I just like them better.

I will say that some paints get soft in the hot sun. Were you outside?
