Re: Paint Case
I ordered mine but they sent me the ones with the 50 spots
I have not had the ambition to re-do it yet... I don't know when I will.... so much work lol... I have re-potted my paints like 8 times.

Re: Paint Case
I'm loving mine! Here's a pic of the larger rainbows. My original pic is of the cases on top of my fatmax.
Re: Paint Case
That's the one I ordered az well, Whitney, but I'm still waiting on mine to arrive. I have a big gig on Saturday so I'm hoping it arrives with time for me to transition my splits to the new liner. I'm really liking the solid Color one so far. When I have the splits done I'll post some lice of my new setup edited to say sorry for the crazy spellings...on my phone and its acting weird!
Re: Paint Case
I'm not a very patient person so transferring the big splits took 2 days for me. I was in the middle of redecorating my living room and doing that seemed so much more fun than tediously repotting my cakes. Lol! Anyway, it's pretty much done. I have 2 left, but am holding off on those until I buy new ones. They're old and thin so I'd loose more paint than I kept if I tried to repot them.
Re: Paint Case
I'm holding out to see how ya'll like the new set-up in a few moths
Thank you all for being the Guinea Pigs for this... LOL! Honestly I'm being lazy & don't want to repot again... Like Suzy this would be like 7-8 for me...

Re: Paint Case
Well, the liners finally arrived today and I took time to re-pot some of the splits. I had ordered plastic liners but they sent flocked ones which I wasn't happy about, but I don't want to have to wait another week so I'm just going to use these for now I have a big gig on Saturday and I want to try the new setup then!
So... here is my new set up
The whole set-up, ready to work
The top of the "table" on top of the fat max, which holds my freehand glitter supplies, glitter tattoo supplies, new paints and splits in their liners inside the trays, water basin with the new sponges (yay!) and my powders and gems.
IN the little compartments of the fat max I have my paint brushes, q-tips, glitter gels, gem clusters, and setting powder/sprays. In the lower compartment on top of the lid, I have my wet wipes, stencil holder for the glitter tattoos, and my business cards
Here I've shown how I take the liner out of one tray and stack it on the liner containing the splits....
Then I take the other tray and use it as a "lid" when I'm breaking down. Now I don't have to fuss with lots of lids anymore!
This fits perfectly inside the top section of the fatmax. Once I take everything off the "table" the water basin goes in the lower section with the powders and the brushes and the baby wipes, and everything else goes into the top section on top of the new liners and trays. The sign holder also comes off and telescopes down to fit in a small drawstring bag that also goes in the lower seciton. I then take the bungy cords off the fat max (which were holding the "table" on, and once the fat max is closed, I bungy the "table" and the sign to the front of my fat max, hoist the chair on my other arm, and away I go Setup and breakdown each take about 5 minutes I"M SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Paint Case
Man this pic is awesome. Having them in my set-up, I thought it made it look a lot nicer, but seeing yours confirms it. I've got to buy the liners to protect mine. I love them too much to let them get ruined.
Re: Paint Case
Whitney, thank you so much for telling us about these! I can tell this is going to really speed up not only my setup and breakdown, but also my painting! I won't have to hunt around for my split cakes anymore, pick them up, set them down, etc. That alone will save me probably 15 minutes during a gig! I've been looking for something like this for a long time, but never thought to use jewelry liners!! You're a genius
Re: Paint Case
Yeah, I knew with my setup I would need something for the liners to sit in, because a lot of my stuff "hangs off" the edges of my "table" to give me more space. The trays are perfect- plus they protect the liners and the paints
Re: Paint Case
I got to use the new setup today for a big gig, and let me just say, I LOVE it! Those jewelry trays really make a big difference. I hadn't realized just how little I was using my split cakes, with having to dig around for them, take the lid off, etc. Now that they're all out there in the open, where all I have to do is swipe a sponge or a brush over them, and VOILA, instant awesomeness! I had several people remark today on how professional the setup looked, and the kids were all amazed by the colors Hubby came out to the gig later and was shocked when we got ready to break down, and before he could even say, what do you need help cleaning up? ...we were already to go to the car! LOL Which is another added bonus in ending the line- before someone can come up to squeeze in another painting, we're already packed up LOL
Re: Paint Case
That is great, Dawnie! Thanks so much for sharing it all. I see these in my near future!!
What is your 'table top' that you bungee on to the top of your FM?
Whitney, THANK YOU for sharing this gem of an idea with us!

Re: Paint Case
It's 3 of the black foam core boards that you buy at Walmart, duct taped together to make one solid board. I use the zebra duct tape and it came out looking very nice plus stiff but light to carry

Re: Paint Case
I need to do something to accommodate all my paints so they are easily accessible while painting and then fit into "Maxine" when I'm done... I forgot all about this jewelry tray thread.... Thanks for the link, Suzy...
I have a few question, though...
I want trays where the tops can go together like yours, Dawnie... I have as much paint as you (maybe even more) and it is getting harder to set up so that I can find everything instantly and with ease. I NEED to consolidate!
1) Can I, or better yet, should I, transfer one stroke paints into jewelry tray compartments? I specifically mean pre-packaged ones from TAG and Arty Brush... and if so, which size jewelry tray did you pick for one strokes?
2) Can I do the same with Rainbow cakes from Silly Farm ( I have a gazillion of 'em)...anybody know which jewelry tray would be best for that?
3) I also would need to transfer my regular sized single colors that are already smooshed into a bead compartment container.. which sized jewelry tray for them?
So many questions.... sorry about that!

Re: Paint Case
BTW... I'm hoping for this to be my last major set-up change for quite awhile....
I have morphed my set-up so much in the past year and spent a lot of time and money doing so.... I want to end the madness!!!!
Unfortunately, everyone on here is so clever that you are constantly coming up with new ideas that make such simple sense that I want to hit myself on the head like "IcouldahaddaV8"....

Re: Paint Case
This is the liner I use for the solid colors... 32 slots
http://www.amazon.com/SE-Black-Liner-Tray-Section/dp/B000RB32DO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1332434907&sr=8-1
I still have my bead container with my paints because the jewelry liner doesn't hold as much paint as it did so I have something to refill my liner from when I need to. I don't bring it on gigs with me, but I have it at home.
This is the liner which holds my splits... the slots are large enough for the large splits, and the smaller one stroke cakes, such as arty cakes, I can fit 2 to a slot perfectly:
http://www.amazon.com/PLASTIC-INSERTS-18-COMPART-TJ05-14180/dp/B001EOHHIY/ref=pd_rhf_se_p_t_4
It was a pain to move the splits and I kept second-guessing myself if it was worth it, but once I was able to use it on a gig I loved it! Saves so much time- I can just swipe my sponge or brush and don't have to waste time finding the split cake, taking the lid off, swiping, finding a spot to put it back, then setting it down. It took me the better part of two days to move my splits, so allow enough time!
And these are the trays the liners "sit" in:
http://www.amazon.com/Jewelry-Display-Tray-Black-Standard/dp/B001565F2G/ref=pd_rhf_se_p_t_2
At the end of a gig I simply stack both liners on top of each other in a tray, then flip the other tray to cover and they fit perfectly in the top of my fat max.
I thought about putting hinging the two trays together, but I find the ability to move my paints around into different configurations was worth not having them hinged. When my daughter works with me, she likes to have her glitter tattoo stuff on the same table with me, and being able to move the trays to fit her on the table was worth it.
You can see in this pic at the very right hand side of the pic, the arty cakes in the slots... I can fit 2 arty cakes in very nicely... and the larger rainbow cakes fit with just a little adjusting...
I just can't thank Whitney enough for finding these... I have literally been looking for 2 years for a system like this and never thought about jewelry liners/trays... heck, I didn't even know they existed! LOL

Re: Paint Case
Thanks so much for taking the time to squeeze all that info into your post for me! I didn't know they existed, either. I was looking at the jewelry site and was overwhelmed by all the different measurements, etc.... did you see the magnetic trays? I was wondering if both the top & bottom could hold a liner.... that would be grand if they could....
Re: Paint Case
Yes, but something someone said (Martha?) reminding that metal is a good heat conductor made me pause.
I would hate to have them melt and would feel terrible that I could have prevented it.

Re: Paint Case
Doesn't someone on here use magnets instead of velcro to anchor their paint containers? I don't know if the magnetic aspect could really cause a problem with the paints themselves... but hey, it could possibly even cure my aches and pains at the same time... Win-Win!!!
Re: Paint Case
lol.
Worth a try!
You're right... Someone here does use a magnetic setup (Jayde?). I wonder what her climate is like...?
And besides, if it is only the tray/lid rim that is magnetized then that's not a lot of metal.

Re: Paint Case
Yes, I have the magnetic setup. The bottom of each half of my carry case has a think piece of sheet metal (wrapped in black fabric because sheet metal is butt ugly) which is held in place by magnets so I can take the fabric off to wash it from time to time. The only other metal (other than the clasps and hinges) are the little button sized neodymium magnets that are epoxied to the bottom of my cakes (1 per cake).
I wouldn't go for the magnetic case itself simple because without a latch, I don't trust any case to be strong enough to stay shut tight when the weight of the paints is added.
I live in NE Ohio and we get some hot, humid days here as well. I've been going strong with my magnetic case for almost 2 years and it hasn't failed me yet...thought occassionally, I'll get rough with a cake and drop it back in the case...which can crack the epoxy surrounding the magnet, but I just glue it back on when I get the chance.
