My wolfe appetizer was starting to run low so i gutted it out and took the xacto knife and stuffed them into my handy wolfe kit.

I like it! Smile

Is there a thread anywhere with tips for making your own split and rainbow cakes? I haven't really dared because I'm afraid I'll mess it up and waste a bunch of paint.

I'm guessing it won't work with cakes that have dried out. I have a yellow and orange that are starting to crumble and i don't know if there's anything i can do about that.

When cakes get dry, I spray them with glycerine & water to bring them back. I just add a few drops of glycerine to a small sprayer bottle of water.

There is a tutorial on youtube for making rainbow cakes by Lisa Joy Young. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IguUM3OrCxw It's a great way to use up leftover bits of paint or make the rainbow combination you want, economically.

You never know where you will find some cool containers for split cakes. I found the watercolor paint containers at a dollar store for my 2ml classic & sparkling Snazaroo.

I'm glad I had a spare container because they are quite fragile & crack easily. After I switched to a fresh pallet, I added TAG splits & JestPaint grey (opaque silver Wink. Sorry they look so messy - this photo was taken during one of my classes.

These Mary Kay eye & cheek display containers have 2 3/4" long shallow wells, perfect for long strokes that load the brush quickly.

I've used the watercolor pallets found at Michaels for three years, replacing the pair once after I dropped them & shattered corners. I keep them in the original clear bag they came in that has a back flap to slip them in for travel.

My Snaz pallet only has three wells of classic colors, the rest are the softer Sparkling, Metalic or Electric colors. Do not mix hard & soft colors in one cake because the softer colors will wear out faster, giving you an uneven sponge or brush load.

I thought unscrewing cake lids & arranging them on the table, then screwing on lids was too time consuming. I've been creating split & rainbow cakes in pallets shortly after I got into face painting for the speed in setup, applying a quick base for butterflies, tigers, etc & I can still use any one color independently if I want.

To refill the wells, I really appreciate the split cake service Metina provides, selling two color Snazaroo splits of my choice ; D

Hope this inspires a new quest for rainbows,
Susan

Thank you so much! I admit, my setup and packdown takes ages because of all the individual paint pots. It's annoying. Now I have to go pull out my kit and rip it apart Smile

I found it so annoying, too which began my quest for pallets. You will love the convience of having your paint in pallets for super fast setup & knowing exactly where the colors are for speed in application.

The white watercolor pallets were around five bucks for the pair at Michaels, with coupons ; D

Happy Painting,
Susan

I did the same thing w/ my wolfe pallete. My daughter took it to Costa Rica on a mission trip & taught one of the full time missionaries how to use it & left it there.
I found these for $1ea at CVS in the pill case section.

They were perfect for when I got a last minute job for a college football game & needed to create quick team splitcakes & didn't have time to order them.
