IMATS show Empty IMATS show

Post by Noella Fri Nov 11, 2011 5:53 pm

Anyone else going to the IMATS show this weekend?

http://www.imats.net/toronto/toronto_index.php

I'll be there Saturday (but not Sunday unless I don't get through everything on Saturday). I'd say I look just like my profile picture, but I cut a foot and a half off my hair yesterday. The cane gives me away though - youngish person with a cane, dressed in black, with a black backpack (not that dressed in black doesn't describe 75% of the room).

And the other 25% will be wearing aloha shirts.

LOL! probably! I wear black generally because I like black (and I have a plan and a reason for it for tomorrow), but for the teen/young adult contingent it seems to be the "uniform". It's been interesting the last couple of years with no credentials to get in - lots of makeup fangirls (who don't seem to flock to the seminars I'm most interested in seeing - I had no trouble getting a seat at the Vargas one last year for instance!).

I've been to IMATS in L.A. three times... black is MUAs and aloha shirts are SFX ... lol, I wore mine and the sfx artists always treated me as a colleague... very cool. The patterns don't show the splatter and stains.

It's been a decade since I attended one though.

Dear Noella:
Would I be allowed in even if I don't have an Aloha shirt? My husbands' board shorts have an Aloha pattern on them. Would shorts count as SFX uniform?
I do own a lot of black because in art college I believed it made me look deep. I am interested in attending the IMATS event on Saturday afternoon.
I wonder if I can purchase a black Aloha patterned shirt b/4 tomorrow.

P.S. I do not look like my avatar at all.

I've been to IMATS LA before - but I don't fly if I can help it now (and when I drove to LA for something else it took a week and I'd like to avoid that). The Toronto show isn't bad (even better for me since it is less than an hour for me to get there) and I like keeping up with the people I know...

If you come to it Lisa and find me say hi! I'll be there with two others for sure - mom and my friend Graeme (who is not a makeup artist but doing makeup related research). We are going to the first two seminars then probably spending most of the rest of the day on the exhibit floor. I'm probably spending less time with colour though and more with HD and foundation (research project). Hoping to fit colour in in the middle somewhere though!
