What do you use skin coloured paint for?
Hey i see a lot of skin tone colour pallettes around. I was just wondering when people would use these paints. Like how and for what?
i find it strange to have to paint skin colour!

Re: What do you use skin coloured paint for?
for people and babies, shadow, dogs, natural looking leopard, mixing the lightest colour with lightgreenfor that really unhealthy colour!
Re: What do you use skin coloured paint for?
I suppose a person could make themselves a different race for the day. I'm a lighter skinned Native...always wondered what it would be like to go out very dark skinned like Grandfather.
Re: What do you use skin coloured paint for?
Chimpanzee. Brady Neher does cool cartoon faces with them. I've seen superhero type eye designs from the Wolfe Brothers.

I'm gonna pretend like I didn't read that comment. I use skin tone colors to paint dora, a fairy, super mario, etc.

Re: What do you use skin coloured paint for?
i have a very simple kit ( regular colurs and pearl white, rose, purple and teal) would the pallette be something i needed? or would i I be able to get away with just having one such as the middle toned skin colour( see it against lighter and darker skins)?
To me personally i dont even see skin colour because i live in such a diverse city, i see manners and politeness.
And suzy i love that money, do you mind if i use it...somehow... I think i just found my need to buy a flesh tone haha

Re: What do you use skin coloured paint for?
Ask yourself if it would still seem racist if it were said the other way around.
Skin tone paints are perfect for covering up tattoos too.

Re: What do you use skin coloured paint for?
I dont think that was racist. Kids ask to be painted all sorts of things and we dont need to vilify anyone for saying so.

Re: What do you use skin coloured paint for?
Tash to answer your question yes it would. Not gonna sweep this under the rug. Bottom line the comment was made in poor taste to say the least. Perhaps she was not meaning it to come across as racist, maybe she was who knows. If you don't check people on the less than appropriate comments they make then they continue to go on making them. To do something out of true ignorance is one thing, hence the saying "Ignorance is bliss" For ignorance is a sincere of lack of knowing or possesing the knowledge to make an informed decision. But even in our ignorance and regardless of it we are still to be held accountable, hence "Ignorance of the law is no excuse" Try telling anyone in law enforcement that you are not accountable because you weren't aware of the laws and that is precisely what you will hear.

Re: What do you use skin coloured paint for?
ok keeping in mind this is a thread about skin color.
How is a white kid saying he wants to be painted like a black kid racist?
I can see only form a cultural standing point that the black kid asking to be white COULD be view as an issue if you are thinking that the kid wants to be white because being white is culturally viewed as being better - this is an outdated an redundant school of thought that no longer applies to our generation....
We have to stop this.....
any kid that wants to be another kid of different race or color is normal - I grew up wanting to be a different skin color most of my life. My daughter wants to look like her African friend Fatima because she has awesome things and braids and beads in her hair every day....... is that racist? No of course not she honestly loves her.

Re: What do you use skin coloured paint for?
The original poster said (yes, really) as if to imply that she has really had that request. Another poster said she wanted to try out looking darker... Nobody jumped on her. I didn't see any racist comments and this site has NEVER had a racist tone to it by ANY MEANS...... Before slamming people and labeling them racist perhaps you should ask what their comment meant. Wanting to know what you would look like if you had another skin tone is kind of cool. Growing up I always wanted the skin tone of my friend that was mixed... to be able to see what I would look like given that opportunity is kind of cool. If i were posed with a request like that from a child I would ask the parents if it was okay with them. Caucasians tan and do many things to make their skin darker. How come if someone wanted to go lighter, it is all of a sudden wrong. I get being proud with who you are and being proud of being black... But I just think in this situation it is being blown way out of proportion.
Let's all get back to the topic at hand and stop with the accusations.

Sorry guys, didn't mean to be inappropriate...out of my 13 grand-kids, only 4 are white...racism isn't an issue here...but the comment was truly from experience, paid gigs & not my grandkids!
Re: What do you use skin coloured paint for?
vampires I do alot of vampires have a snaz one for most but one of my first partys had a 5 really darker skinned children, and they looked too pale with this so. found myself trying mixing alot to draw them out a little but not too much. after that I bought the wolfe small one to save on time next time. if it is one kid I mix but if its a few I pull it out.
fairies. and also I use a medium skin tone (reguardless of ethnicity) as a base for skulls as I don't like starting with white seems too white then - to me anyway.and covering hubbys tattoos when required. and had one time when someone wanted to look older learned in performing arts school how to do it with normal make up and browns. so pulled out skin tone pallette and went for it.

Re: What do you use skin coloured paint for?
Often it is not what is said but how it is said and who says it that makes a statement sound not-so-nice. Had you said to change the race of an individual, it would have sounded so much better. My sister got the role in a play of a elderly caucasian woman. The transformation was really cool. But the way you said it, and then hehe! made it sound ugly. The reality is that for example, a certain race can make a joke about that race to a group of people that are that race and everyone will laugh hysterically. But an individual of a different race can make that same joke about that race to a group of people that are that race and get thrown out or worse beat up. Like a heavier weight person can joke about weight but if a buff guy does it, it is considered cruel.
Re: What do you use skin coloured paint for?
Foundation shades for... foundation.
If you do a butterfly, for example, you can give the rest of the face a base too, to even out skin tone, etc.
As a base for blending shading and shadows.

I was watching "Gene Simmons Family Jewels" after reading this thread and began to wonder if Sophie uses somethinhg like that for covering the birthmark on her face. Sometimes you see it and sometimes you don't.
