Skin Stains

Does anybody know of a good way of reducing skin stains when using dark colours. I have recently brought 2 TAG split cakes both have a dark blue and both stain the skin. I have thought about using a barrier cream, like what I would use if doing SFX and using blood but Im not sure how or if it would effect the water based paint.
Also what gets the stains off once they are on, 3 days I had blue dots up my arm, I looked like I had some kind of alien chicken pox. I tried scrubbing many times and using a make up remover. My last resort was going to be alcohol wipes but you cant do that to a child. I dont want to use it on a child untill I can advise the best way to remove it but obviously preventing it would be better.

apply cold cream, moisturizer or baby oil for a few minutes to the area and then wash again thoroughly with soap or baby shampoo and warm water.

The reason it is staining is because the skin is dry. Wolfe black stains really bad on me. Some days it doesn't stain at all.

Like Perry Noia said, apply lotion and wait 30 minutes then wipe again.

There are colours that I won't use directly on skin because they stain me so badly, I don't want that to happen to a child. For example, I will only use DFX black for details over top of another paint which then acts as a barrier. If I need to use black directly on the skin, I use Snazaroo. And oh I used to love that metallic green but it's a no-no now - I had faint vines on my arms for three days.

To get rid of stains, as suggested use moisturizer and let it soak in then wash again gently. I use olive oil, it's good for the skin. To avoid stains, I use moisturizing lotion before I paint myself and it does seem to help a bit. But I also avoid colours that I know soak into me. I even traded away a bunch of split cakes that I loved but stained me something awful.

Also, a trick I learned here on the forum, is to wash by applying liquid soap/baby shampoo (I find dr. bronners works well) without water and making a paste with the paint. Wait a few seconds, then rinse with warm water. I've had far less staining with this method. Good luck!

Olive oil.
If after washing there is any remaining staining olive oil should remove it.
I have never found the oil to not work on a child... we have really dry skin in comparison so it won't always work 100% on us... usually the face is fine, but the oil works great on young skin.

It's definitely a skin issue, I have used every dark regular or metallic color there is from DFX and Wolfe on me and my kids and never once have I had any color stain me or them. My removal process is nothing more than warm water first to reactivate the paint which takes the majority of it away then just a little mild moisterizing soap and all clean. I don't have to scrub or rub hard at all.

I had a problem with some of the TAG paints staining. I massaged it with Dawn ultra dish detergent and wiped off with a damp cloth.

Glycerine based soap, or veg soap as they call it in the UK aka plain castile soap...

Works (main ingredient is often olive oil or other veg oils which is why it is veg soap).

Glycerine is an ingredient in the paint, therefore, the soap will reactivate the paint letting it be washed off... most of the time. There are always exceptions, but I find it does work.

olive oil is what I use. On a cotton ball wipes the stain right away. (olive oil is also a natural moisturizer)

Thank you all for this... I just used the TAG metallic green for the first time on my son... he looked like a zombie after I used the lather and lift method! Going to try the olive oil now!!

Wolfe green will stain, too. I was refilling mine Friday and my fingers were sooo green for most of the day! LOL

Only a complete beginner here, but Wolfe green and black stain like crazy on my pale skin...until they hit castille soap. A little wiping with that stuff, and I'm pale and wan again.

I have real staining with teal. It doesn't matter which brand it is, teal gives me stains on my hand that turn to very dark army green in my skin...
And the only thing that gets it off, strangely enough, is washing powder... I noticed it when I was handwashing a stain on my daughters clothes, five minutes and my hands were clear again

My skin is always dry, what I try to do is use a silicon primer on my face before I paint (I don't tend to do this for kids, but I've never had any complaints from parents about paint staining.) The silicon creates a barrier so that the face paint rests on top of it. I haven't had any issues with it interacting badly with the facepaint. I also use some makeup removing facial wipes after washing as much of the paint as I can get off with warm water, the wipes have oils in them that cleanly remove the rest of the paint, regardless of a base.
