ACRYLICS, really?????
So, our local festival is going on this weekend and I couldn't get in because it was already full and they had a face painter, so I happened to pass by, and good lord, its alllll acrylics!!!! She's using freekin craft paint on everyones faces!! I was horrified...told one parent in line..because I knew them and their daughter is tiny....but she decided to ask her anyways..and got it done...I saw another friend later with her childs face done and she was told it was FDA approved...grrrrrrrrr....maybe for wood or paper....I just want to blow up. We spend LOTS of money and time getting the RIGHT paints, and caring about what we do, and others buy 4 for $1 craft paint and slap it on faces and call it a day.
I'm so irritated.

Re: ACRYLICS, really?????
You should be. That face painter is lying to the customers. FDA is food and drug administration, how can they approve when it's craft paint!
Could it happen to have been Palmer??? Not much better than craft but it does say "Face Paint" on the label. I noticed that Palmer seems to be overtaking Snaz at my local craft stores...Makes me upset a bit.
I had a similar circumstance but when I went there I was glad I didn't commit...it was really tiny and I wouldn't have made anything.

How frustrating! I would have been so mad, but what can you do other than try to get it next year?

Ya know, it might be. I didn't get up close and personal, the bottles look like craft paint bottles, but after you said that, I went online and they LOOK like craft paint bottles. I didn't know they existed at all. Whew...I guess I feel a little better knowing she isn't slapping acrylics on everyone...but I will be checking when I go back tomorrow lol..just more curious now! Thanks for informing me!

Hey, it's Miss Ronnie. Is that the Italian Festival going on in Syracuse that you're talking about? You can email me at rjrevette@yahoo.com....
Re: ACRYLICS, really?????
And let me say again that I should have looked more closely at her paints before I overreacted...they may indeed be the face paints Denise mentioned...I was just mad for the customers if they were indeed acrylics...I wouldn't want it on my kids now that I know more about the business. But I had never heard of Palmer before.
Re: ACRYLICS, really?????
One of the things that bugs me about Palmer (other than I guess they are known to cause reactions) is that they put them RIGHT NEXT to their acrylic craft paint sets. They look no different than the other sets so I could see a mom choosing another set and thinking they were getting face paints and causing a world of hurt.

Re: ACRYLICS, really?????
I don't know what the other face painter at the Relay For LIfe was using, but one kid came over with a really simple(done with cheap brushes) butterfly and I attempted to wipe it off. It didn't budge at all! Horrible stuff! It was this barney purple color stained on her face I tried covering it the best I could with the design she wanted me to do over it. I know as a parent, I would be furious if the painted stained like this!

Re: ACRYLICS, really?????
My daughter had her face painted with Palmer's at a baseball game. It looked like acrylic in those little jars, and I asked what kind it was. They showed me the box that said face paint so I let her get it done. OMG that evening when we go home she played in the bathtub for about 10 minutes, and then I went to wash her. None of that Palmer's paint came of with water. I had to gently scrub her face forever! I was gentle, but firm. When it finally came off she had a red rash in the shape of a tiger paw for two days. I know it wasn't from my scrubbing because I was super careful not to rub it too hard. I hate that stuff, and refuse to let her face be painted with that.
In my opinon Palmer's is just as bad a acrylic.

Re: ACRYLICS, really?????
Palmers must have been the stuff at The Relay For Life. It was horrible!
It looked like I didn't even wipe her face, that's how stained it was. I know brands like Wolfe stain, but it's usually a light stain and after applying a bit of lotion, waiting a few minutes, the paints wash off.

Acrylics cause no harm... really...
I got this off FB & was given permission to use. They said anyone could use it as long as they posted a warning about acrylics with it. It will be in my festival tent.

Re: ACRYLICS, really?????
Thank you Linda. Just had the question about Palmer/paints/allergies today when I refused to paint babies...and another lady (of course) asked about where I get my paints.

Re: ACRYLICS, really?????
Someone asked me today if my paints were acrylic. I just said, "NO ma'am! I would NEVER touch a face with acrylic paint! That is very bad for skin."
She shut right up.
She shut right up.
Re: ACRYLICS, really?????
hmmm i told my partner about this post i was totally shocked that people actually use acrylic paint for face painting ( gee if i new that, i have tones i acrylics!) JUST KIDDING!! anyway he wasnt shocked at all he said thats what they used on him in primary school (long time ago) and they just mixed it with baby shampoo! OMG i hope schools can aford better paints now! some mothers are soooo strict on the foods that there kids eat but why are they not so concerned about the products that a going into there skin. if i knew the schools were using acrylic paints on my kid without permission i would hit the roof!!!
Re: ACRYLICS, really?????
OMG, Linda, thanks for posting that! I am so going to put it in my tent too!
Re: ACRYLICS, really?????
Thanks for the photo Linda. It would be more impactful if there was a side-by-side picture of what was painted there so that customers can actually see that it was a face paint design that caused the irritation. It really sickens me that people still inisist on using acrylics for face painting. I even had one woman say that she used acrylics BECAUSE they went on better than Palmers... a total backward step in the wrong direction if you ask me...
Re: ACRYLICS, really?????
A lot of times while I'm painting & interacting w/ the parents I talk a bit about safety. I say that my paints are all professional quality, cosmetic grade face paints & really are make-up. They wash off with soap & water. Never let anyone use acrylics . I'll turn the population to the truth one face at a time
Re: ACRYLICS, really?????
It's kind of like getting a stop-light at an intersection...somebody's gotta die. There has to be some celebrity or congressman's grandkid that gets blistered and then it will become an issue. Problem with that is then there will be regulation and the cost of paints will go through the roof....or they will blame all face painters.
I think the problem lies with the painters that are doing this. They are either ignorant (like employees at a store that paint for their employer) or they choose to ignore because they want to make more money. Then they lie to their customers and tell them it's "non-toxic" (yeah, it won't kill them) and people trust them because "no one would want to hurt kids"
Paints are a little expensive but not really for how much use you get out of it. They go a really long way. One $30 pallet would do a whole school fair or grand opening cheek art. We're talking pennies per design. It's penny wise and pound foolish to use craft paint.

Re: ACRYLICS, really?????
The pictures are heart-breaking! I just don't understand how anyone could do that to kids.
Re: ACRYLICS, really?????
Most of the time that acrylics are used it's by school or church groups and these groups are not going to spend the money on real face paints unless they have a professional face painter in their group. Most festivals are required by law to have liability insurance so remind the organizers that this can void their coverage.

I'll be sure to bring this up next time I try to get into a festival!
