FAB reaction Empty FAB reaction

Post by summers4seasons Thu Aug 25, 2011 9:54 pm

Hi all! With all the talk about switching from DFX to something else, I wanted to let you know that I had girl react pretty strongly to FAB tonight. She teared up pretty bad the first time I painted her with the FAB silver. At first I thought it was because I was using a brush on her eyelids, but then it continued. The second time I painted her her eyes started burning almost instantly when I made one pass with FAB Antique Gold. I have painted her with Wolfe, Paradise and Snaz with no problems. It really makes me sad because I do love the colors and can (almost) ignore the smell.

A great big thank you to Vickery (I think it was you) for commenting on another thread about some people having reactions to FAB. Because of this I ordered mostly Paradise and Tag. You saved me big time! The gal I was painting is the daughter of a good friend, and commonly my practice head. Oh, and my avatar.

Thanks,
Summer

HUMM...would it help if you used a base paint, like snazeroo, or is it the smell she is allergic to?

I would assume it's the smell. She didn't get a rash and it was almost immediate.

Interesting. I have some FAB paint ordered, so i'll have to watch out for that. On a side note, I had a kid tear up really bad to TAG black the other day. He is my first kid to ever have a reaction on me. I was painting black around his eyes for a skull face, and he started complaining of it burning and then he of course wanted to rub his eyes which is the worst thing you could do....Anyway, i ended up wiping his face off with a few baby wipes. Then his mother still wanted him to get painted, which i refused to do. scratch .

I have some FAB and when I used it near my eyes, they teared up too. I think it was actually the smell that made my eyes tear up...it's horrendous! I love the colors and the consistency, but I usually have my "canvas" smell the paint (conversationally) and if they like it, I will use it, if it smells gross or they give me that glassy eyed, "wtf was that" stare...I keep it in the box. Away from my eyes it's wonderful. I really think it's the high concentration of fragrance...I don't know what they were thinking of when they came up with THAT brainstorm!

hahaha Lady Jayde.... "wft was that stare"

good idea though making them test it first. I keep hearing not so great things about the smell and now reactions. Yikes!

I'm glad I remembered that from another thread! I hope it is the smell that is troublesome instead of a actual reaction! Hopefully, you can try to sniff test with people and still get some use out of it Smile

I like the smell... but I am weird to begin with. Don't know why they manufacture face paint with a fragrance...seems like a gamble.

Thanks for the warning! I have the FAB silver and a pastel pallette (under the Superstar name) and won't use them on clients because of the perfume. Sad It's just not worth the risk - they are SO heavily fragranced it seems pretty unlikely that someone won't react.

I have about 12 colors of FAB including red and white that I use for spider dude. We all know how popular that mask is lol... I have gone through an entire 40g fab white and have not had anyone have any reactions. Also, I use that white for the muzzles and the kiddos don't even comment on the smell. I have had one lady who I painted a full face tiger comment on the smell and that is it.

Suzy, are they really getting rid of the scent? I have truly been struggling this week because I was all set to order about a dozen colors ( I have 4 right now) and I will wait if the manufacturers are changing the formula. I love the creamy consistency of the paints and they do go on soooo nicely.

That's what Silly Farm said. My question is...how will they phase out the fragrance rich paints. Will they expect us to sit in anticipation and hopes of getting the scent free version with our orders? Will they dump the stinky lot?

A few months ago I ordered a bunch of Arty Cakes from Silly Farm (I do Love Silly Farm, though) and then a day after I received them all the Arty cakes were suddenly offered in their new packaging. I hate the old containers. But I was stuck with them.

Was thinking of trying FAB but I can't even use scented hand lotion without the smell irritating me, so thanks for the info.

I think they are getting rid of the paint right now, you receive a free sample for every order you make ($6 dollars value). I already have have 4 free samples, metallic white is beautiful, silver is a nice color, grey is nasty, and I haven't try the gold yet.
