When working with other entertainers
Would you team up with an entertainer? Like a clown or magician, etc....
Who has worked with other entertainers at the same event?
If yes, have you ever worked with one who is unprofessional or rude?
What was the best type of entertainer that you worked with?

Re: When working with other entertainers
I team up alot. My son does balloon animals and I am booked by/and work with a magician. I just did the 4th with another painter - I shared my paints and tips with her (same agency). It's fun being with others especially dj's then the music is pumping.
Re: When working with other entertainers
Being a clown and twister myself, I don't generally team up with someone that does something very different, just with other painters at bigger events. It wouldn't bother me to team up with someone else though. As long as we're all getting paid, doesn't matter to me at all
Re: When working with other entertainers
Teaming up by choice is very fun. Nothing like getting a chance to see other designs up close and watch step by steps if time allows.
I think it gets sticky when several people are hired seperately. I always try to introduce myselft anyone I see at events that are in the entertainment industry and exchange cards. Some are very open and friendly and others just kinda scowl at you. Thick skin, Thick skin,.......move on.

Re: When working with other entertainers
Hahahaha, so true Metina. My son wants to try twisting and clowning, he is eight years old. He already has part of a rountine worked out, funny kid.
There is a fellow within my area, who i had the displeasure of working with, again. He comes across as pompous and rude, not just to me, but to the children as well.
I have other friends who are performers around the globe and a joy to work with, but never encountered anyone quite like this.

Re: When working with other entertainers
My daughter is practicing to twist balloons. My older daughter has been working on learning caricature drawing. I've been trying to talk my husband into clowning but he just stares at me when I bring it up. Anyway, wouldn't it be nice to keep it all in the family!
I've worked with other twisters and clowns at events, but they were hired by the hosts so I didn't know them personally.

Haha!
I find myself working solo a lot, but on occasion either I'm contracted to another fp company, or I bring a contractor to work with/for me. That's always fun - when they've hired us separately I do find it hard to talk to them - either because it's a madhouse and we don't get a chance to, or because we're not close to each other.
Re: When working with other entertainers
I often get booked with different people through event companies, but don't often get a chance to talk to them.
Worst is when it is with a bouncy castle (not a person, I know), because the children will come back with runny faces.
Else most times it is magicians, balloon twisters and even a hand reader one time. Clowns are not so popular. I don't think I have seen them outside a circus. What do they do to a event?

Re: When working with other entertainers
At a big event, I'm usually twisting or face painting (while being my usual silly self of course), but at a party I also do songs, games and parachute play with the kids. I have a week long event where I'm doing two stage shows a day plus having a face painting booth as well.
Re: When working with other entertainers
What are some of the ways you guys build relationships with other entertainers? Say at an event, where you don't know them, but you know your going to be working with them for the day (or more.) Do you introduce yourselves, exchange cards etc...?
I like to kind of keep track of other performers in my area, in case i have a client who requests additional entertainers

Clowns seem to be pretty popular here. They are usually hired to twist balloons, occasionally face paint, or just walk around being silly, interacting with the kids.
Re: When working with other entertainers
Sure... I introduce myself to other entertainers or they come over and introduce themselves to me, we exchange cards - up here we all refer work to each other.

Re: When working with other entertainers
That's the approach I like as well, but there are a few here who don't agree. I think perhaps they view it as competition rather than comradoray. (sp?)

Re: When working with other entertainers
If I notice someone else doing a good job, I will ask for their card in case I might need them for subcontracting.
Re: When working with other entertainers
I like to introduce myself and talk with them, exchange cards. I also love looking at other's setup. Some are friendly, some blow me off. The ones that blew me off screwed themselves because I only refer work to the friendly ones. You catch alot more bees with honey.

Re: When working with other entertainers
We were hired for a 4yr old birthday party this summer, by someone who owns a Yacht Club. We found when we got there that we were one of many entertainers. She had also hired a magician, a one man band, and a caricaturist. It was the first time we worked with other performers at a gig, and it was a pleasant afternoon! Everyone complimented each other's work, and we all exchanged cards.
I wish I were this kid's sister!

Re: When working with other entertainers
I have brought another painter with me but most of the time, after set up, I never seem to have time to get around.
