Thank you so much for sharing this! I don't have any grandparents left to paint, but I hadn't even considered my parents...I'm going to have to wrangle them into doing it now!

Ahhaahhha! I love it!!! The hat really makes the design & my hat is off to them for being Holocaust survivors. So few are left & we should never forget their strength!
Re: I painted my g'pa :)
Love it, love the story & love his hat it really does something to add to the design. Please tell him what we all think. And I too would love to see your gran ma painted too. You truely are blessed.

That's just awesome! What a wonderful memory that picture will provide for years to come. I love the pic where your grandpa is wearing his hat...it's so sweet.
Re: I painted my g'pa :)
How amazing to still have them both, and for them to both still have each other. Great pic, makes me think about painting my grandmas.
Re: I painted my g'pa :)
I think it is beautiful!!
I love it when the older generation really get into it, like being a child again!

Aw, thanks so much guys. Thanks for the kind comments...I will definitely tell him what everyone has said, he'll love it! I've been working on getting my grandma to let me paint her for a while, I need to get a glass of wine in her somehow, heehee.
Papa is a clay sculpture artist and still lifts weights every day. He sits surfing the web with one hand and curling a 10 lb dumbell in the other. He writes political articles and submits them regularly for publication to big newspapers, hasn't been published in a long time but never stops trying. He loves to cook and create recipes and enter them in contests, too. My grandparents are truly amazing! They live down the road from us, independently (Papa still drives!) but we are also their caretakers. It's wonderful to be able to share meals with them every couple of days at our our house where we always finish with cookies and board games. They kick my booty at Scrabble and Giant Sequence but usually let my kids win. Their new favorite is a dice game called, "Farkle Party" where we made up the rule that everyone has to shout, "Farkle!, Farkle! Farkle!" when someone is rolling the dice, lol. They've always been a LOT of fun - took me to my first concert, too - ABBA when I was 12 years old.

Wow wow wow - you are so incredibly lucky to have such wonderful and AMAZING g/parents so present in your life. I'm so envious. I loved reading about your Papa! Thank you for sharing. Now go and give em a big ol hug.

What lovely grandparents you have. I love his tiger paint. A tip for you. Moisturise his skin and let it be absorbed before you paint him next time. His skin wont soak up so much paint and will be easier to remove.
