Re: Who Uses Star Blends?
I use them for shadowing and highlighting when I'm working fast paced events. I hate them for bases. I know tons of people love them, but their not for me when it comes to bases.
Re: Who Uses Star Blends?
Just found this thread. Starblends & other powders are a lifesaver in humid climates! They hold up well & don't "fall" off at all. They actually stay better than face paints.
Suzy!!!! Thank you!!!! My smoothies are dieing & I'm going to get some sponges instead!!!

Hmmm... wish I'd known that last year in Samoa! 35degrees Celcius and 80%+ humidity. I ended up painting upper arms exclusively because faces just melted!
Perhaps I'll keep the starblends for special tropical occasions.

Re: Who Uses Star Blends?
it depends on the skin type works best on dryer skin if it is too oily you get blothches.. dryer skin does on like your pressed power or a blush would... good for the little kids who don't like paint feeling on their face or for designs that stain easier such as spidey and anything with black around the eyes. blue is the worst color it doesnt take no matter what kind of skin.
I love them for the little ones and high stain designs...
Its faster too since you dont have to wait for paint to dry and you can paint right over it.
All of these were done with Starblends and black paint (sorry about the last one I couldnt get him to rotate...I haven't been able to get a good photo of any spideys

If you're sponging on darker skin and can't seam to get an full opaque coverage you can use a smoothie or lollipop sponge and the star blend dry powder of the same color on top of the paint. It will fill in color in the blotchy looking areas and even out the color.

This is very helpful. I live in the heat and have such diverse clients. Looks like StarBlend is in my future.

Re: Who Uses Star Blends?
I like the starblends. I have used them for muzzles or anywhere there are large areas of color. I am not really keen on sponging because I get it all over my hands. The starblends seem cleaner to me, but you do have to shake off excess powder. You don't want to dump a bunch of powder on someone's clothes.
Also, I agree that if someone has oily skin or slightly wet skin it will come out blotchy, but I have worked around that too and make sure it blended.
I find using starblend pink to put on as eye shadow is a lot quicker than wetting a sponge and loading and it making a mess with the paint. I think it is a lot more comfortable. I have used a half sponge for this and it worked fine although the smoothie blenders are good too.
I think... I could be wrong the key is to really load up your sponge or smoothie blender. You are more likely to have a more opaque coverage that way.

Re: Who Uses Star Blends?
I think they'll be part of my next order !
However, I have read that they are not easy to use on darker skins (I think someone did a white base before putting the actual colours - that would take too much time for me). And most of the lovely kids have tanned or dark skin, where I work.
So I was wondering if it would be more effective for instance, to paint a spider person, with water-activated paint or Star Blend powder ?

I have all of the Starblends and I do love them ....
What I wish is that they could come up with more colors...

Re: Who Uses Star Blends?
I use the pink starblend for cheek color on little girls... round cheek apples in pink with a tiny white starburst painted on each cheek. The pink on the cheeks only takes a second and adds extra ooomph, even if it's a quickie design. The starbursts on each cheek are added when I'm doing any final detail work. If time permits, I'll add a tiny clear gem to the center of each starburst.

Re: Who Uses Star Blends?
So far I only have a white starblend that I use for making scales on my full face dragons. I've been meaning for so long to actually buy a full set of starblends, but the money just hasn't been there thanks to moving, high rent, college, and now unemployment. However, I have tried the starblends as a base when a friend of mine let me try them. I love them! Here's a pic of the scales I do with my white starblends, I like this effect so much better than using paint because it's a softer, more implied look.

Re: Who Uses Star Blends?
Just out of curiosity, Metina, does this mean you are considering carrying starblends in the forum shop? Because that would be awesome! I prefer doing business here as much as possible because the service is so great and it's something I really want to support. When I eventually do get around to placing an order, it's so nice if I can just order from one place, rather than several as it cuts down on the shipping cost and the wait time is the same.

Re: Who Uses Star Blends?
I love starblend and ben nye lumiere in the summer. Red is awesome for spiderman, and I find it goes on much faster than Paint. I use smoothie blenders for mine. White kind fades after a while, but the other colors stay pretty strong for me. Not too much of a problem falling off on things. less mess than paint in the heat, I would say. also great for anything around the eyes with boys. they fuss a lot less than with paint. The black is great for doing a black eye on a puppy. All in all I use them a lt during the summer. And the fushia Lumiere is like my FAVORITE color. I use tons of it. I wish they sold itin a larger container!

Re: Who Uses Star Blends?
if you powder over paint, does the paint still sweat/melt off in the heat?

Re: Who Uses Star Blends?
I have a limited selection (black, white, red, yellow, green, orange) of Starblends, but they're fabulous for line-busting on busy days! I use them mainly for skulls, tigers, Hello Kitty, Spidey, Angry Birds, monster eyes, reptilian masks...stuff like that. They're great for shadowing and work really well on warm days (the few we get every milennium over here in Bonny Scotland...) and I really should use them more often.
