I got hired for the Farmers Market!!!
I am so excited! I approached the Farmer's Market about getting space because they are indoors and year round although only 3 days per week. After I was refunded for that 10 day gig that I got bamboozeled on last week I thought I should follow through with other ideas that I had posted on my FB just in case. Their Board met yesterday and my proposal was accepted. I will start out with Saturdays 8am-2pm and Sundays 10am - 3pm and the weekly charge for my space is $50. I will be covered by their insurance too! Whoo Hoo! I am so grateful that they accepted my proposal and liked my sample package. I start on May 28th.

Re: I got hired for the Farmers Market!!!
That's great! My farmers' market is only $25, but it's also only on Saturday mornings, so that sounds like a good deal. I don't make a fortune at the market, but it is definitely worth it in bookings and media coverage. You're lucky too that it is indoors, we are outside rain or shine or c-c-c-cold
Re: I got hired for the Farmers Market!!!
It's a bit higher than I thought it would be but still workable as this is a very busy Farmer's Market with loyal regular customers. There are tons of kids too so I am hoping the parents are interested. I feel so grateful that they not only liked my samples but that they were willing to step outside of the home made, baked or grown limits. I hope it will be a win-win for everybody.

Re: I got hired for the Farmers Market!!!
I was fortunate enough to get in on a weekend farmer's market for this summer and they are not going to charge me anything to be there. They figure that by offering something for the kids will draw even more parents out to shop. So all I make I take.
Wish this was a year round thing, but hey it's down by the beach...so can't really complain...lolol

Re: I got hired for the Farmers Market!!!
Congratulations Gr8ful!! You put yourself out there and it really paid off! I'm so happy for you, well done. Look forward to hearing all about it in the future.
Re: I got hired for the Farmers Market!!!
That's wonderful, Gr8ful!! Good for you for going for it, I hope it all works out well for you! Let us know how it goes, we're all rooting for you!
The market I paint at charges different amounts depending on whether you get an indoor or outdoor space, and depending on how many feet of frontage you get. I think the cheapest is an outdoor spot for $15/week. It also is only a Saturday morning market, just from 8-12.
I don't pay the booth fee because I decided to volunteer and paint for free again this year. I do fairly well in tips; I make enough to cover my costs and that's fine. I have other reasons for doing it the way I do, and I'm more than satisfied with how it is working out for me.

I often forget too. I love doing the painting and seeing the final product but usually forget the picture until it's too late. That's why I have so few pics. I will work on that.

Re: I got hired for the Farmers Market!!!
Congrats! $50 is a great price. I got lucky too and was called by a farmers market to work on Saturdays and they would cover any vendors fees. I can charge PPF and keep the money and it's a 20 week gig. Never really gave thought about the farmers markets till they called me.
Re: I got hired for the Farmers Market!!!
Please let me know how the traffic is, because I was thinking of contacting some local farmer's markets. But I am not sure how many kids really frequent those.
Re: I got hired for the Farmers Market!!!
I will gladly do that Dragonfly. I will be doing ppf. My theory was that even if there's not as many kids some days, the parents and grandparents are there shopping and it can potentially build my party business. Our farmer's market is busy year round and when I approached the director about getting in there she said there are lots of kids that come and they had been wondering what they could offer to them. I just happened to pop my head in her office right when they had been discussing what to do. Serendipity at work again. I am so excited! Who would have thought that shutting down our trucking business would lead to such pure joy!

Re: I got hired for the Farmers Market!!!
There are a fair number of kids at the one here... I have regulars that come every week. There was a little girl who came every week last year... her dad did not work on Saturdays, so whenever daddy was home in the morning, she immediately asked, "Balloon?" Brought them back every week A lot of parents really liked my being there because it made the kids happy enough to let their parents shop without bugging them the whole time.

Re: I got hired for the Farmers Market!!!
How exciting! Plus, you get access to all those glorious fresh vegetables and grassfed meat every time you go.

Re: I got hired for the Farmers Market!!!
Yup..and clay oven baked bread too Julie. Yum! The market rule is made, baked or grown and it has to be local.
Thanks Helena. I can see where I need to improve or be more careful when I have pics. I got some books from Mirandas (swapshop) as well as some from Dotsy's and they are helping a lot. I am learning in leaps and bounds since I found FPF. YAY!
