How long do you spend on a belly?
Sorry, I'm sure this has been covered but I just can't find it. I've been doing henna bellies for years and I usually spend about an hour if it is at a baby shower or blessingway and then I spend the next hour henna-ing the guests. I got an enquiry tonight about doing a baby shower and painting the baby onto the belly. I'm not sure how long it would take? My first thought was at least 2 hours as she may need to get up and walk around. I've got a few weeks to practice the design so I'm sure I could gain some speed with practice but I'm a bit worried as I only have 7months experience with paints as opposed to 7yrs of busy festivals with henna. How long did your first bellies take?

4.0 hours. Ha! That did include about a 30 minute lunch break, and I'd hilariously decided that my first belly should be of two fairies (holy facial detail). Plus there are times when I can't stop chatting, and I can't always multi-task when I paint.
BUT my next belly (about 6 months later) took less than 3.0 hours (#3 took 4.0 - but we're friends and couldn't stop talking, lol), and my more recent ones have taken me 45 minutes-1.5/2.0 hours, so waaaay better!

My 1st belly took 3 hours. My last one was about 1 1/2 hours.
Some tips are get a 1" - 2" flat brush or filbert brush for covering the large areas. I found I didn't like sponging on the belly. It took way to long & I felt like I was lightly punching the belly(I know I wasn't but I still couldn't get used to it). After doing the brushwork I'd go over it w/ the sponge just to even it out. The brush also covers more area quicker than a sponge.
Have a design idea planned out. This will help cut your time.
Take lots of pics!!!
