Jam Photos - face painting in So. California
We had a huge jam on Tuesday. We are starting to burst out of our seams on the Chinese Buffet we go to!
Here are a few things I did. On the mothe/daughter pose, the green mask on the right was done, I think, by Michelle.
The little blue Princess with her sister just about got tied to her chair by this face painter!! Se is lucky the paint was not all over her hair and clothes!! Still, she is cute We all had fun.

Re: Jam Photos - face painting in So. California
*Sigh* If only I were about 2 hours closer!
...come to think of it, maybe some time I will make that drive. I could probably stay at my grandmother's house in Northridge or my Aunt and Uncle's house in Glendale.
When's the next one?

I know -- even for me it's over an hour to get to but soooo worth it.
I hope you can make it! Lilly's jam is so much fun
Here is a link to Lilly's West Coast Facepainters' calendar:
http://www.westcoastfacepainters.com/facepaintingcalendar.html
Lilly's Montclair jam is every 1st Tuesday of the month. The only other one that might make sense for you is Karina's Jam which is in the Studio City area, so a bit closer. When I can get someone to watch my kids, I try to go to both -- I wish the other ones were closer -- I've been to the Covina one which is relatively new, but the rest are in Orange County -- too far for me.

Before kids, I may have been up for driving 4 hours for a jam, but for now, an hour is about my max --
I do hope you can make it down here. The jams are so fun and inspiring. I doubt I'd be trying masks without the exposure to them at the jams and I'm pretty pleased with mine -- while there is always room for improvement, I'm happy with the overall design and shape and my model was so pleased, she said I can paint her any time.

So is it crazy to drive 13 hours for a jam???
Maybe a bit crazy But if combine it with one of Lilly's classes that she has before the jams then maybe you can justify it

Re: Jam Photos - face painting in So. California
I am so happy that I was able to make it to Lily's class on Tuesday. I learned so many techniques and tricks that I probably would have never known. This class is a must for anyone who wants to get into the professional field of face painting. I look forward to attending more classes Lily has to offer

Re: Jam Photos - face painting in So. California
Wow! Thanks everyone ) It always helps to have gorgeous models (the butterfly was one of my students, Terese King). I got those get colors by applying a base of Diamond FX, then "this and that" of Starblends and Ben Nye Lumineres.
That mask of Michelle's was just so pretty too!
GINA!!! You big goof, hold your own jam up there!!! So what if you are the ONLY artist? It will get you known in the area as a painter. If one of two others start to come, all the better.
My first jam had three of us there. None of the "celebrity" painters in the area could be bothered. But, I had so much fun having ****ME***** time, time to just slow down and do portfolio work, that I kept on. For months it was just me and a couple of others.
But that grew. Before long in SoCal alone we had 5 monthly jams! (Feel like I should get a "Godmother of Jams" award!) There are others that are not set on a certain day, but happen when it works out for the host.
Frankly, I would be just as happy if there was only 3 or 4 painters at my jams. Lots more models for **ME!!** But, we would never get a vendor to come spend time with us. And that is VERY nice. We get to see and hold the products.
Anyway, don't worry about not having enough artists in your area. Make it work for YOU. It is your party, your time to indulge in your art.
Hugs )

Well, I do practice and jam all by myself sometimes but I'd like to have at least one other artist there! LOL! There are only really 2 others in the area and they are not nice. I mean they're not nice to the kids or adults! Plus, we have a WAY smaller population in this area than S. Cal. Seriously WAY smaller. ...but I did post on the WCFP forum to see if anyone might be willing to go to one in Santa Barbara, which is a much bigger community than mine.

ADHESIVE: You need SOMETHING that is safe to use on skin, as the jewels are meant for paper, not skin. Having said that, MANY painters have used them for years, and never had a problem. I just like to put a little bit something safe down, plus, they say on for 3 extra seconds in the Jumpy!
The easiest to get is Duo Eyelash Adhesive, available anywhere they sell eyelashes, like your grocery store!
Prosnose, or Pros Aide, and Mehron's GemAd, are all better adhesives, but so sticky, they can be a pain to work with. Imagine the difference between Elmers and Superglue (that is an exageration to help you understand the difference.)

Re: Jam Photos - face painting in So. California
Nancy and Maggie -- thank you for your kind words. It means so much to me to get positive feedback on my work (of course I see a lot I can improve but I'm pretty happy with it for my 3rd try ...)
Barb -- it was fun meeting you in Vegas too! Read what Lilly wrote to Gina above-- Make a jam happen in your area -- all you need is one other painter. Before I was able to get to Lilly's jam, I occasionally got together with other painters that I met at my place and we painted on our practice heads....
Hope to see you at another convention soon...
