Check out my new model! I'm calling her Tallulah. I've got about 3 weeks to paint her before she will take up permanent residence at the Cleveland Zoo. I'm completely overwhelmed by the challenge, but I'm glad I took a body painting class with Lucy back at Fabbulas because I at least have a good idea of how to go about doing it. The sponsor is a candy store so the theme is going to be "A kid in a candy store". I've got some preliminary ideas, but I really need to work out the design. I'll post pics of the process. Smile

That's sooo cool!
In our city we have a different animal design each year & they paint them w/ different themes, place them throughout the city & you can go on a scavenger hunt looking for them. They are eventually auctioned off for the children's hospital & get permanent homes. So far they've had Jaguars, Manatees & sea turtles.

Great opportunity! One thing for sure, it won't move while you're painting, won't need a drink, won't ask how long it will take to finish, won't need to go to the toilet...
just you and the elephant Smile

LOL.... Nancy that's funny. Yeah, there are definite benefits to painting a statue!

She's set up in the middle of the candy store so I'll be working on it in the store during their open hours, so I'll probably have an audience most of the time. Should be an interesting experience! I can't wait to show you guys some progress.... so far i've bought paint and made a digital outline of the shape as sortof coloring pages so I can draw out some designs. I hope what's in my head translates into some thing cool looking!

Such a cool project. Reminds me of the Cows on Parade in NYC. It would be funny to have a childs face painted on his since people are always getting animals face painted on themselves.

Thanks for the links michelle, it was interesting to see the interview! I about had a heart attack when he said how long it had taken him, but it sounds like alot of thought and research went into his design. I'm not nearly as pressured in that respect! At least I hope not! Smile

Here are some pics of the beginning stages... It took 6 hours to get her sanded, the design drawn on and her shirt painted as well as the white base of her socks. Then each sock has taken me about an hour and a half, although they still need more work. It's definitely going to take some time to get her finished!
