ouch and ugly Empty ouch and ugly

Post by allparties Sun Apr 12, 2009 11:35 am

It has been beautiful weather here over the long weekend so I decided to trim our lilac bushes that were about 16 feet tall. After doing most of them by hand with my loppers I ran into a few branches that weree to thick to cut so I rented an electric chain saw to finish the job. Now I have use one several times before so it wasn't a big deal for me to use one again.

Hubby asked me to cut one last branch that wasn't very big but some how I ended up cutting my check instead. I don't really know what happended. All I remember is my glasses flying off my face and my hubby telling me we need to get into the house right away. As I was rushing to the house I realized that there was a lot of blood coming from my face. We headed to the hospital which wasn't to far away. On the way we came across an ambulance which turned on his lights so we could go through the traffic lights and into emerg through the back door.

They took me right away and called a code 1 for a doctor to come right away. I ended up getting 21 stiches from the corner of my eye almost down to the corner of my mouth. I tell you, I sure look ugly now!

OMG. How traumatic. You have my deepest sympathy. Crying or Very sad I wish you a very speedy recovery and minimal scarring.

Take very good care of yourself and let the hubby handle the chainsaw from now on. Hope it's not too very painful or at the very least, they gave you some good pain meds.

Thanks everyone. Yes it was the chain saw that cut my face, the rotten branch is still attached to the tree Mad

I do have pictures, I just wasn't to sure if it would gross people out.

There isn't alot of pain if I am sitting upright but if I put my head down it tends to hurt.

My biggest worry is going out in public looking like Frankenstein and having to answer over and over again on what happened.

Maybe I will get a t-shirt saying "I fought a chain saw and the chain saw won" or maybe that "I tried to give myself a facelift but decided a chain saw didn't work"

Oh no!! How awful. I'm glad you're okay - stiches aside! Fingers crossed for minimal (if any!) scarring.

Uh...I kinda do want to see photos, actually...:sheepish:

Oh wow, this is horrifying! I am so glad you weren't hurt even worse. It could have been sooo much worse! I bet that scared your poor hubby half to death, not knowing the extent of the damage. Yikes!!

You could always go the exotic mysterious route and wear a veil like the kind belly dancers wear until you get your stitches out. A little silk hankie would do the job. People are going to look no matter which way you go.

I totally agree with Angie. It's a miracle that you were not hurt worse!

I want to see the photos please... don't worry about gross out. Um... if anyone wants to be grossed out for real I've got some autopsy and crime scene photos... (I used to work for the police and these are real photos they used for training...)

Share the photos, I want to see how narrow your escape was. Shocked

Sharon, you can keep your autopsy photos... I am disturbed enough just watching CSI. LOL.

Jo- How awful and frightening! I will pray for you! Make sure they give you all the best advice and medicine to minimize the scarring and pain as you recover. I cannnot imagine how devastated you must have been when you saw the injury for the first time!!! Take care of yourself, drink lots of water, and get better! Happy Easter.

Oops, got in a hurry and wrote Sharon instead of SHANNON! But you know who I meant right? The one with the morbid nightmare inducing death photos. affraid

Ok so I put some pictures in my personal album that way if you don't want to see them you don't have to.

It seems to of gotten infected today so I am now on meds to curb that. It actually looks worse today.

Shannon - I would LOVE to see crime scene photos!!

OH, you poor thing... I cringe every time I think of how close that was to your NECK. You haven't mentioned any pain, but surely it hurts?? How are you doing? Has your husband recovered from the trauma of rushing you to the hospital like that?

ACK..not sure how I missed this!~ /hugs and prayers to you~

Hey, you can always 'paint' around it abit and say you painted the entire 'special effect' and it's not real. They'd be super impressed!

I hope you heal quickly. I know wounds like that 'throb' with the blood flow from lowering your head. /hugs Maybe prop yourself upright with a pillow for a few days! Vitamin E once it's healed enough to massage into the scar...to help prevent one!

again...hugs and prayers!

You might want to consult with a cosmetic surgeon before your healing gets too far along. He may have some recommendations to minimize scarring.

That is horrible! I'm so sorry to hear. Yeah, like Cassandra said, consult with a cosmetic surgeon. My mom works for one and even if they don't surgically fix it, I know they have great prescription creams/ointments to minimize scarring.

I hope it doesn't hurt too bad. Neutral
