Snaz commercial?
Did anyone catch this commercial. I guess I was kind of surprised to see it. It suggests that FP is super easy to do.... really???
Re: Snaz commercial?
I really hope I dont offend by saying this... but for such a big company you think they would be able to find someone that could do better painting for their advertising!
They were the first ever paints I brought and as a beginner I found I could do a much better job than their instruction manual... I mean their tigers don't even have stripes?!?

Re: Snaz commercial?
Lol, Daizy, I was wondering the same thing.
It does suggest that it is super easy to do. But then again, when I was nine, I got a face painting book at the bookstore that said the same thing and quickly gave up on trying to create the designs it showed.
I think that it is just a gimmick to try to earn a bit of extra money for the company. Who knows who will actually buy into it.

I kind of thought the same thing...I think they are gearing it toward children. Like play make up or something. Not sure...But I'm woundering why?Daizy wrote:I really hope I dont offend by saying this... but for such a big company you think they would be able to find someone that could do better painting for their advertising!

Re: Snaz commercial?
I'm pretty sure they kept the faces simple looking on purpose. They seemed well executed if not "professional" looking.
I am surprised to see this too. I hadn't heard anything about it before now, and I'm on the snazaroo email list.

Re: Snaz commercial?
That kit was actually the first thing i got for face painting as well and I agree with Daizy. The step by steps in the book are very easy. I skipped them because to me they just looked cheesy and that was me starting out. I think it works for the person buying them as a makeup kit for their kids though.
Re: Snaz commercial?
yeah this is definitely marketed towards mums painting their own kids, and kids painting each other..... if you think about it that way then face painting is easy...... it's face Art that takes some skill to master!
Re: Snaz commercial?
at least it will get the do-it-yourselfers using safe paints, even if it still doesn't look as nice as a professional doing it.
Re: Snaz commercial?
Face painting ON THE SOFA???? Now that's just asking for a nice black stain of Snaz black - I know all about it... I've got a yellow polyester shirt that has 8 year old Snaz black stains on the arm! Probably does the same to upholstery!

Re: Snaz commercial?
Same as many here..thats the very first kit i bought...now and even then i always thought it looked soooooooooo cheap!!! not professional at all! I dont know if they have those designs (easy) so people will buy it orrrr what??!?!? but i dont think i ever did any of those...i thought they were just Not cute at all! :/
Re: Snaz commercial?
It def appears to be targeted towards family functions and kids. I think it could be a good thing, maybe a few people will see it and use it instead of craft paint. The faces look very elementary, however if they put something complicated, people wouldn't believe they could do it. I have been painting 4 years or so, and if I saw some of your guys work in a pamplet (as a beginner especially, but now too) I would think no way can I do that.
Re: Snaz commercial?
at first i saw this and cringed! many moms are gonna skip hiring us and just do it themselves....AND THEN I SMILE b/c unless your Erica Exline and an Artist Major (who works with mixed paints) they are not gonna be able to do what we can do. I've seen people i've lent my paint to (oh it looks so easy) and had them give up after a few hours. Maybe now they will appreciate the time, money, and effort we put into our craft (skill that is, not paint, lol)
Re: Snaz commercial?
I loan out my paints all the time and no one has done anything permanent with it yet! Most people are not going to put forth the time it takes to be good. My concern is those who will charge and paint "crap" because it gives everyone a bad perception of the industry. But even those people would have to take the time to advertise to get the gigs so if they're that committed, hopefully they would also work on their skills to present quality work.
Re: Snaz commercial?
FYI, Gary said he had nothing to do with the comercial & it was all done by Snaz overseas(or something like that). Just so you know.
Re: Snaz commercial?
This actually doesn't bother me one bit! Just like the henna kits that you can buy in the stores - promises anyone can do it! Some get bitten by the bug and move on to try and get good henna and learn about the art-get hooked and get good and share thier new found art with the world... some suck but are so proud of thier 'work' they continue and try to sell thier wares in a tent. This is often successful because the general public is a bit clueless on what henna is supposed to look like (can't win em all! LOL). Most realize it's harder than it looks, realize that thier butterfly looks suspiciously like a bird pooping or something, realize the color isnt' what was promised or it gives them a rash and put it in a drawer. I'd imagine more snaz kits will end up collecting dust than will result in compitition.
Re: Snaz commercial?
I just saw this commercial. Its actually pretty funny. My kids were like "mommy those kids look silly"
Re: Snaz commercial?
I don't really see much wrong with it, it is aimed at having fun at home with the children. I am very glad the face are done well but not to a standard that you would find from a professional painter.
Most people I know have paints they play with and normally once they have tried doing the painting themselves at a party they soon understand the difference between what they can do and what we can do
I think it would have been a pro painter asked to do the faces in the booklet that comes with the paints. They want to show how user friendly thay are.

Re: Snaz commercial?
I thought the faces looked pretty good. Would a real person be able to execute those designs with the brushes included?
I've never had a Snaz kit before. I was wondering about using a Michael's coupon and seeing if they have a princess kit for the sparkle samples.
It is frustrating that Snaz markets to professional face painters, who are probably their biggest clients, but then say "It's so easy!" "sisters painting sisters!" it does diminish our training and efforts. What if they said something like "you can't have a professional paint your child everyday but you can use the paints that thousands of professionals rely on." it would give face painters kudos and still acknowledge that you might want to paint at home for entertainment.
I want them to show a mom buying the kit for the first time and being able to make designs like that. I know that my stuff was pretty rough when I first started, nothing like the tigers and puppies they show there and having decent brushes and sponges makes a huge difference.

Re: Snaz commercial?
I had a PTO once who sent me the schools art teacher to help me at an event. She was petrified to put paint on a child, had a degree in painting, but she did not try a single stroke. Some people have talent, but no nerver for this. Unfortunately, some have the nerve, but don't have the talent too!
I look at this like makeup. A lot of people try to put it on, but don't do much of a job. Some people like their make up to be hideous, and there is no changing them, but there are plenty of people out there that after trying to put it on, turn back to professionals and appreciate us that much more.

Re: Snaz commercial?
I actually had a kid say to me the other day , " Hey you use Snazaroo! I see that on TV all the time." I couldn't decide how I felt, but it was cute that she got excxited over it.
Re: Snaz commercial?
At first I was a little upset... but I think its going to be a blessing! Like so many of you, I think that there are going to be quite a few people out there to try it and give us a little more respect for the craft that we take the time to improve. Those that get the kit and actually make something of it, more power to them.
