Newbies, want to feel good about your progress? I can do that for you, LOL :)
... easily!
Here is what was sold as face painting (a "tiger", apparantly) at the Harrisburg, PA (our state capital) Flower Show - a big event, well attended and well known. Somebody paid *money* for this
Do you feel good about your lines now? Glad to be of service, LOL.
Hugs,
Barbie

Re: Newbies, want to feel good about your progress? I can do that for you, LOL :)
Wow, not much effort put into that at all. Was there like a crazy line of people that made this person rush or something?
Re: Newbies, want to feel good about your progress? I can do that for you, LOL :)
You should submit samples of your work so they can keep you in mind for next year. They probably knew the painter and hired them to be nice or something.
Re: Newbies, want to feel good about your progress? I can do that for you, LOL :)
Wow.... Granted, I didn't take many pictures when I was jsut getting started all those years ago, and I ahve no idea what happened to the pictures I DID take, but I KNOW my first tiger was better than that... I mean, I know tigers aren't the easierst thing to get to look good, but, seriously? A little more effort on the artist's part should be more apparent. I totally agree, you should submit a portfolio to the people that put on this event for next year, you'd be SOOOO much better!

It seems that children are easily satisfied!

Re: Newbies, want to feel good about your progress? I can do that for you, LOL :)
Yup, that's what my work looked like when I started
The child does look happy. At least it looks like they're using Snaz & not acrylic or poster paint.

OMGoodness! Yes, I do feel a LOT better now. While it has been my experience that the younger children really don't care a whole lot what it looks like, I prefer to consider them as advertising for me as well. That would not be good advertising IMHO, but maybe the person who painted it was a young painter? (hoping?) I have often allowed the kids to paint me after I am done painting them and have had some real doozies painted on me! LOL. Maybe I will post some of those pics. ROFL

Well I certainly don't feel good about myself now. I painted that! Geeze...

Well if you did paint that tiger, you certainly made some progression ha ha. (looked at your gallery, great roses BTW)

TOTALLY agree on that. I cringe every time I see a kid walk by with his or her entire face covered in that crap and you can't even tell what the design was really supposed to be anyways.

Hmmm, needs some stripes! Well, the base was nice and smooth. I've seen worse, lol.

OOPS ------> important addition, sorry I didn't make it clear
This child is happy because he is in MY chair at this point, with the promise of me "fixing it" for free. I took this photo in *my* chair, LOL. He may or may not have been happy with the original, I do not know, hmmm. It was the parent who told me where he had gotten the painting and that the boy wanted it fixed when he saw me painting (in a different location from the Flower Show). I assume from the dad's demeanor that the child was not happy with the original... at least not when he saw my tigers getting out of my chair.
I did *not* do a great job fixing him up... I painted "over" the original, and on hindsight I learnt a valuable lesson... I should have had him wash it off (for various reasons). He was thrilled with the results, but in my opinion it was one of my worst results ever But I was happy to help him anyway, and the dad was very grateful and took lots of photos of him
HUGS,
Barbie
ps: no real dis on the original painter. This level of work might be perfect at a church or school event, or for "free" or fundraising face painting events (hey, that is where many of us started out!). But it is not what I would expect at such a huge event.

oh, wow. yes, it takes me back *almost* to my own originals!! But.....what's all that stuff around his mouth?? haha, sorry.
That was very nice of you to "fix" it for him, I'm sure it made him very happy!

Re: Newbies, want to feel good about your progress? I can do that for you, LOL :)
It was nice of you to "fix" it but you need to be careful.
I refuse to paint over other people's work - I don't know what it is, whether it was clean to start with, or even safe, etc. so I tell people who ask me to "fix" things that I will not paint over products that I can't identify due to my liability insurance. And in reality that is true - if there was a reaction of any sort WHOSE product caused it? Bet the other painter doesn't have insurance, so guess who gets sued?

Wow, that is a really good point Shannon, I never thought about it that way. I'll think twice before I do a 'fix it' job on anyone else from now on!

Re: Newbies, want to feel good about your progress? I can do that for you, LOL :)
I saw a few tigers like that walking around an event I painted at on Sat after I had packed up my stall.. I saw one dad look at what I'd painted on my face and then look at the c#$p on his kid's face and he kinda cringed.. I'm with Shannon on the no fix its though - I remembered her saying that on another thread, and I stuck to that on Sat.. I just can't believe people pay for that! Even if its for charity I'd rather just give a donation. At least the kids only see it when they look in the mirror. But they don't get the wow's from everyone they meet that day that they would with a real FP.
Re: Newbies, want to feel good about your progress? I can do that for you, LOL :)
Poor Thing.. That is just sad, to see that type on job and seing kids so happy with the lack of creativity and preparation of some "artists". I would be embarrased to charge money for that..

Re: Newbies, want to feel good about your progress? I can do that for you, LOL :)
Thanks for this....I feel soooooooo much better! I just did my first real job two weeks ago and of course not all my kids turned out like I thought they should, but the kids and parents were impressed.
Re: Newbies, want to feel good about your progress? I can do that for you, LOL :)
Thanks Shannon - I remembered that you had made this point before.... AFTER I painted him. In the "rush" I totally forgot! Also, I worry now about cross-contamination from someone else's paints, to mine. It might be that I take better care of my kit and keep it cleaner than the previous painter. I don't think it is *likely* to be an issue, but you never know...
