*Glitter Tattoos-Color indecisiveness*

Hi guys!

Im just curious how you all handle the huge lines for glitter tattoos at big events???

-Do you let the kids get only one tattoo or more?
-Is there a limit of colors to choose? or you let the kids choose as many as they want?
-Does it matter where the kids/adults want their tattoo? or are certain body parts you would recommend to stay away from? (besides the usual lol)

*When I was barely getting in this business i went to this carnival at school and there was a booth with face painting and glitter tattoos...i chose the stencil and color i wanted right away (only one) but i do remember there were a couple of people who spent quiiiiiite a while trying to figure out the stencilS..the colorS..and even when the lady was already putting the glitter they kept on choosing more colors!....i gotta say maybe the lady didnt mind (that much) because we were pretty much the last people in line...but i still wonder..what if i get people like those when i still have big line?!?!?!...oh yeah!!! and at the end..the girl wanted the fairy on her cleavage..(like me..but i do have medium size boobs...she was a big girl so i was afraid she was gonna end up flashing us all!)
...anywhooo!....I would appreciate your ideas!

I do not do enough glitter events to answer properly, but I want to say that because the supplies are a bit $$$, I would DEFINITELY stick with only one per person. (I am assuming you are paid by the hour in this scenario!) The problem goes beyond cost, though, it just gets really, really messy when you open a door to more... where does it end? Why doesn't everyone get two? ETc. etc. etc. Really, it leads to negative emotions, in my experience, and it becomes a headache to control. Keep it clean, neat, and happy!

As to color, I know a few people on here do not allow color choices if there is a long line - they just keep it to the same colors as the sample board. Only then, as time allows, and especially for PPF events, more of the color choice options come into play...

I am sure others more experienced will answer too, but in the meantime, I hope this helps!

Set prices based on:

Small, medium and large tattoos AND
One, two or three colours.

If you want to offer "rainbow" colours i.e. more than four colours for a tattoo then add-on a surcharge.

Your time is money so a small one colour tattoo is faster than a large multi-colour... also is more adhesive and more glitter AND the cost of tattoo stencils is more per tattoo on larger ones.

At pay by the hour events one per person UNLESS there are only 10 people and you're there for 2-hours!!! I always tell them that until everyone has one that I don't do seconds. Also, I depending on the event I might limit the choices...

As to location - well, that is up to you really. If you are comfortable and the venue is appropriate (like a night club) then cleavage, lower back, lower stomach... if it is a 10 year old birthday... arms and legs. YOUR CHOICE on that one.

I just got hired for an 11 year olds birthday party to do glitter tattoos. The mom said she wants 'tramp stamps' for them all! I suggested they could have them on their arms and legs as well and not just the lower back. She said, 'oh, yeah, hadn't thought of that!' Yikes!

Yes, I'd definitely limit the tattoos to one per person unless there just aren't many guests there. If you offer more, people seem frantic to try and get as many as they can, and don't enjoy it nearly as much. They lose their value if there are 4 tattoos on all arms and legs.

I'd offer them a choice of two glitter colors. I tend to push my own choice at them if they can't decide. "How about pink and purple?" or "Would you like the colors in the picture?" Usually they accept the suggestion with relief! Having to decide can really be intimidating for some kids. (My daughters hate going into Subway because they feel pressured with all of those decisions. What kind of bread, what kind of cheese, meat... it stresses them out. LOL.)

OMG Angie... Subway is annoying!! LOL I go in and ask for a specific sub as posted... and then they ask ME what I want on it? I say "however it comes - like in that photo" pointing to the menu! Why make a menu of choices when we still have to make the choices???

I let the child choose one colour, then I do the rest unless they are really specific as they get to my chair. And I never ask "What colour do you want?" I ask,"What is your very favorite colour" For some reason, rephrasing it makes it easier and faster, and they don't feel the need to go through every colour I have with me. And I offer one per person at a pay by the hour event, and if they are in line at PPF, then they can have as many as they want to pay for! LOL I charge the same for all tat sizes, I work alone and don't have time or brain power to mess around adding stuff up. Mom has three kids, two get small tats, one with 3 colours, one with 2, then 3rd kid gets med tat with 5 colours and mom needs change for a $100....AAAAACKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are all $8 each, they are paying for time in the seat, not number of colours. (Having said that, I don't have large back tats, all the standard size ones...roughly size of a business card-ish) One price also means I can do all three siblings at once and not have to recall who got what LOL

Oh yeah, and location, I think it is personal preference but I usually don't do ankles because they put their socks on and it rubs and gets sweaty or gummy, doesn't last as long, sandal weather is different. I prefer to put them ont he upper arm, as they last the longest there. Inside of the wrist rubs alot on everything and wears faster, chest I will do but warn them that it won't last as long becuase the skin there tends to be more oily, and the glitter falls one way...down...so they ladies are lit up like crazy for days afterwards. LOL Usually they laugh and love it, sometimes they appreciate the warning and find a more discreet spot. Back of hands are high friction areas so again, they don;t last as long, and backs are ok, but again, often more oily then the arm so they don't last as long.

I'm glad this topic was posted since I just invested in glitter tattoos. I chose which stensils I wanted and bought 8 colors, and the glue. I have to say I was kinda surprised at how small some of the stencils really were. Also how they say you can use them more than 1 time....I must not know the trick to doing that, because I tried it and the second time using the same stencil was very messy, and I wouldn't suggest it.

I'm a little late on this, but...

I don't face paint. I only do glitter tattoos. For parties I allow the children to pick 2 colors. I TRY to do only one tattoo per child. Many times children will come back and ask if they can get a second one and I simply say, "Once each child gets one I'll be glad to do another one for you. I just want to be sure nobody gets left out."
The kids are usually quite understanding when you explain. I typically don't have time to do more than 1 tattoo per kid, but if I have a smaller party I'll do extra tattoos as I'm paid by the hour. ($65/hr)

I post a flyer at my station to help control the line a bit. (and also put the same flyer in the design book to be sure everybody sees it.) It also helps me to keep from answering some of the same questions over and over again.

I do lots of glitter tattoos at lots of different kinds of events. If it's a PPF type event, I let them pick out as many colors as they want. I'm a distributor so I have all the colors they offer. I have a book that shows all the stencils I have to offer so while i'm doing a tattoo the next person in line is choosing their design from the book.

When I do hourly events I do each person once before allowing them to get a 2nd one. I also limit them to 3 colors, and if they can't choose I help them out.

I don't however re-use the stencils. I feel it's unsanitary to do so. There's nothing out there that says that, but they aren't really designed for that.

When painting (and I think it carries over) I think of myself as the artist. I am steering the ship, the child (or adult) is just there to give input. So rather than asking what colors you would like, I ask "what is your favorite color?" then I usually take it from there- deciding what will look nice . It seems to speed things up and I am more pleased with the outcomes. I also have no problem asking someone to get out of my chair until they know which thing they want, letting one person at a time go ahead of them. Just some thoughts.

Super helpful stuff. I was wondering if there is business to only to glitter tats. Looks like there is. Getting started and picking out the right kit's the trick. Is it necessary to have the glimmer kit with all those colors or just have a basic kit to start with twelve or so to use?

You could definitely get away with just a small amount of colors. These are the colors/combos I use the most:

-Pink
-Purple
-Blue
-Green
-Red
-Black
-Silver
-Gold

-Pink & Purple
-Red & Black
-Blue & Green
-Blue & Gold

Thanks. I just got the glimmer kit with the poster to start so now I have enough stencils and colors to do a few parties and see how it goes. If you have any other advice for me let me know. I'll get some stencils from you later on once I'm sure I can get enough business to keep on keeping on. Have you ever solicited a public place to be able to do tatoos for an event like at an eating place or a bar atmosphere for a holiday like St. Patties??? Not sure how to market the tattoos other than kids parties.
