Vote for the Winner!
Hiya,
Please vote for the winner of the Mardi Gras Mask Challenge. Voting will be open until March 10th.
I had to make a few cuts based on the fact that you can only have no more than 10 items for a poll. I based the cuts based on the following criteria.
1. No more than two entries per person that are ACTUALLY Mardi Gras Masks. I had to cut out pancakes, tigers, eye designs ect...
2. If you had more than two masks, I picked the two that I felt symbolized Mardi Gras the most.
This left us with 9 to vote from.

Re: Vote for the Winner!
If I may be so bold to make a suggestion...considering there have been 95 views and no one has voted yet....there might be a few 'hurt' feelings?
I think that changing the rules and nerfing the contest after all these wonderful submissions is a bit unfair, but I'm just guessing at the feelings of the others. I'm not in this contest so it doesn't matter to me...however...
Why not do two or three '10 packs' of all the photos and then everyone can vote for the one 'they' feel best represents Mardi Gras. Then if we have a tie amongst that, you can do a 'final top three' vote for the best of the best? This way everyone gets to have all their work in the contest and next time you can request no more than two submissions or we can say, 'pick your own favorite' to have in the final contest.
I feel there are good reasons to have many entries though, as there was a wealth of great work and it all gave me great ideas!
I know it's more work, but it might make things a bit more 'fair' for this contest as no one realized the '10 entry' restriction on the vote mechanism until after all the work was done.
If it's still too much, how about letting the folks that did the work pick one of their own for the 'top 10' photo group?
Also, I think the term, Fat Tuesday is definitely Mardi Gras, as it was all about eating and partying before the fast...pancakes loaded with syrup and butter and bacon/sausages to boot are definitely 'Fat Tuesday' foods and do represent Mardi Gras as the most basic of it's roots. It's like saying Jesus isn't the original 'Reason for the Season', Santa Claus is. I feel that saying only the 'sparkly fancy masks' represent Mardi Gras is a bit biased"....
But again, I didn't make time to do a submission and it's all mute to me. I am just 'rooting' for the contestants. I mean why has no one voted yet unless there are some issues going on?
No offense to anyone, just 'tooting the horn' to get this going and all figured out!
Namaste!

Re: Vote for the Winner!
If you dont mind my pipging in as well. On the october challenge only 11 people voted, for the November only 16. We are currently at 13 which sounds correct on our normal turn out. the high hits may be coming from people like me checking back to how the voting is going.
It may be that people are a bit sad to not have all their entries but I dont believe hurt is the right word since we all can tell that Metina as well as us did not notice the technology restrictions of only ten. However heather I do like your ideas on setting up 3 different voting areas as well as the allowing the people who entered to chose their entries

Re: Vote for the Winner!
Metina, maybe the votes weren't showing up for you for some reason? I voted yesterday I think, and there were several other votes already cast at that point.
As a bystander who hasn't entered (no time for step-by-steps at this point) I'd say you handled it as fairly as possible given the "ten choices" thing. In the future perhaps it could be done in sets of ten, with the winners of each set going to "finals", but that's a lot of work for you, and you aren't getting overtime for this! Hopefully everyone understands that this is a rather new forum and is growing and changing in a way that makes this sort of thing necessary. I'm loving seeing all the great designs!

Re: Vote for the Winner!
Yes, the votes were not showing up at all for me! Wierd. I just clicked and now I see them today! Wierd! I was like what the heck!! That didn't make sense to have that many views and not one vote showing up yet!
Well that explains that!
Well, regardless of what is decided on how to handle lots and lots of applicants...I still think it's a bit unfair to change the 'rules' after all the submissions. I'm 'built that way' though! But hey, I wasn't in the contest and if all the contestants are fine with it, then who am I to say anything!
I was just stunned by what looked like not a single vote and lots of looking. So this makes a bit more sense now! I was trying to 'speak' for those that might have felt too shy to say something.
I just felt all the entries were deserving of 'vote' status!

Re: Vote for the Winner!
Oops, sorry Heather about calling you Metina, lol, I skimmed the post and didn't realize who'd written it!
Re: Vote for the Winner!
Thanks for the input. Although we can debate this until the cow's come home, I did what I felt was most fair given the restraints I discovered and the time involved. It is all a learning process. Thank you all for your continued support!
Re: Vote for the Winner!
Congratulations Jessica for your 'B' entry on the win! Kudos to everyone else too...those all were amazingly beautiful and very creative. Makes me wish there were more opportunities to wear a mask to parties!!
