What would you do if someone has requested your services for her child's birthday party and has sent you a design that is so incredibly simply that when you sent her a picture to "jazz" it up a bit she thinks it is too much? I don't even want her friends to see this design and say it was me . It's nice but I can do better. Here is a picture of what she would like. She requested no eyes, no nose and no mouths painted, but has requested more white in the design. I thought my design was fab.sighhh. I guess I will take her money and do as she requests.

If she's a paying customer, you give her what she wants....she'll be happy and hopefully you'll get referrals from it! Maybe it's not that she dislikes your design, maybe she's trying to keep clean-up to a minimum? (not having a houseful of painted kids wiping their hands on her furniture???) You never know....

Yes I have decided to stop worrying about it and just paint what she wants. I do know that one of her concerns was that i was painting 6 girls in one hour and she seemed worried that I wouldn't get them all done. I told her that my design should only take me 5 to 7 minutes per child, and that her design and my design would be the same amount of time. I told her i want her to get her money's worth was all i was concerned with. she is a photographer and I tend to think that if she had a client who brought in a picture of what they wanted and she felt it wasn't very good and that she could do better she would make sure they were aware of that.

That makes sense. I'm sure it will all work out and she'll be thrilled when she sees all the girls oohing and ahhing over each others faces! Very Happy

I can't see the little girls face properly because it's such a small pic but I do like your design

Been there... Done that. It's the one draw back of doing any form of artwork for a client. They will always insist that you do it their way, even if you know it'll stink. We paint for fun when we can, but we are a service to the client & have to paint what they request, even if we don't like it. I hate when someone insists on me mixing 2 colors that I know look hideous together & especially hate that most people think it was my choice Sad
Don't sweat it... you'll probably end up painting princesses & butterflies anyway Very Happy

I do feel your frustration, I once went to a job and they they had all the kids draw up their designs before they came to me. Most of them would let me change it and do something better but then there were the ones that insisted I copied their design exactly... I still don't think flowers in squares on the chin look any good at all, but at least they were happy :s

What if they request something that you aren't sure you can paint?

With a little practice time before your gig, I'm sure you could paint just about anything...if it turns out you can't, just tell the client what you can come up with that's along the same idea.

I had a gig where no one wanted to get painted on the face. It was winter & most kids had long sleeves. They all wanted hand designs. I hated it, but they loved it, so everything was ok.

As far as someone requesting something I can't paint. I try to google it on my phone & do my best or I just say, "Sorry, I don't know how to do that."

I hate Darth Vader & really most Star Wars designs. They are just too hard for me.

I had a request for a snake on one arm & a rat on the other from a girl(weird). I painted my 1st rat(it looked like it had been run over my a truck, but she loved it Very Happy ).
