Someone wrote a thread that made me think about this. Has anyone had any success with face painting by the Santa Clause setup in the malls? I'd like to get a head start on looking for an in with our local malls.

This is what I posted in that other thread:

I had a lady in charge of seasonal entertainment at the mall call and ask me about doing some kind of entertainment next to Santa while the kids were waiting. She specifically said she did not want face painting, as people were coming to get their kids' pictures taken. I think it's understandable. I wonder if glitter tattoos might work instead? Those would be fairly easy to hide when taking a picture.

WHy cant they get painted after the picture? I'd love to get some holly leaves on my eyes like an eye design...

On a side note, I'd wonder how much it'd cost to rent a kiosk...$$ affraid so i guess i'd be best to get hired and pay off a %

Ok so, maybe I'm a weird mom, but I would want my child's face painted just for the pic. Just me...

I work at our mall a lot. They get greedy close to Christmas because they can. I get tables rented for like $25 through the regular season...a kiosk around here is about $1500 smacks. Last year they were going to give me a deal for $250 per weekend at Christmas. I was too afraid that I wouldn't be able to make the payments. I usually get $300 or so on a normal day at the mall here...I want to do Christmas. Trying to get it worked out with our mall still about a better price. I am booked for Valentine's weekend for $30 bucks.

Face Painting Near Santa at Christmas Empty Re: Face Painting Near Santa at Christmas

Last year I worked at a place that sold Christmas trees, decorations, etc. The place was really nice had santa, reindeer, etc and they charged me 25% commission and this year they decided to pay me $12.00 an hour! Not trying to be stingy, but I can make a lot more than that so I declined to work for them. I prayed to not be angry and got a new job at another nusery in about an hour. They do not have all the hoopla, so maybe facepainting will be a hit cuz there is not much else to do, but nativity scene and petting animals.

I would think that anyone who had a problem with it when it came to photos would maybe let the kids get painted after the picture was taken.

I think this is a great idea and surely something worth looking into. The mall at Christmas is sheer genius. I wouldn't try to get my foot in the door with vendor rates. I would try to come up with some deal where you let them know how you are more or less doing them a favor by being there in the first place. If they act like they arent interested, consider talking to one of the mall restaurants (not food court) but a restaurant that's attatched like maybe Picadillys or any place that's family themed. Chic-fil-a is notorious for allowing face painters...that's a good option. Just about anywhere in the public during the Christmas season is going to be a pretty good spot....people gotta eat!

Last year I rented floor space at the mall for weekends only. It was too small a space for anyone else to rent so it was worth it for them. I brought in my table, chairs, signage etc. each time I went. I was there from Oct. - Jan. I did pretty well in Oct. & Nov. As soon as black Friday hit it was down hill from there. I was there several hours on black Friday and it was bad! Too crazy busy - everyone was on a mission. The weekends to follow weren't much better. I wasn't by Santa but I was in the food court in front of the Carousel. There is a balloon lady that sold balloons on a stick for $3 each. It seemed that people were going for the cheaper balloons and the carousel ride to entertain there kids. While face painted & glitter tattoos went over well in the previous months they did not go over well there in December. The mall was packed too. That's just my experience. Maybe it would have been better by Santa.
