The Zen of face painting...
I realised the other day just how powerful face painting can be. At my day job we have a lady who spends her time making life a living hell for everyone, she's bitchy and horrible to the young staff and nasty to anyone who has ever stood up for themselves to her. She's also never been married, lives at home with her parents and smokes 40 a day. Not a happy camper.
So the other day I'm painting away and had already done a couple of the staff members when she comes storming over "don't be wasting time painting staff, your here to paint the kid's, yadda yadda...." so I said "sit down evil creature from the black lagoon, let me show you how long it takes me to paint staff". I whip out my rainbow cake, pretty swirl, tear-drop butterfly, star burst, line of dots and puffy glitter, 1 min flat.
She was the happiest I have ever seen her for the rest of the day, kids smiled at her, people commented, she was cracking jokes and I was ever so slightly humbled. And now when people say its just face painting, I'm going to smile and nod and remember that a 1 min design made the bane of my existence a happy and normal human being. Nick and Brian are right, face painting is the most important job in the world.

Sam, what a wonderful story, love it! Maybe she'll look back on that and enjoy it as much as we did, (maybe not, but none the less, she was a happier person for a while!!!

Re: The Zen of face painting...
Oh that is really great! You should write up a little story and post it on Ehow...how to make your boss less cranky
Re: The Zen of face painting...
Terina, it could go something like this.....
How to make supervisor a normal human being...
Step 1. Acquire face painting addiction. Spend ridiculous amounts on glitter, brushes, paint and fake blood.
Step 2. Get asked by work to face paint 30 kids in 1 hour, including set up and pack away (if kids cry because you cant paint them in time deduct a point)
Step 3. Fight tooth and nail to get management to ditch the crappy paints and allow you more time to work.
Step 4. Get yelled at, a lot.
Step 5. Finally lose temper, call supervisor a nasty name, get her in the chair and paint. Add glitter.
Voilà , how to make supervisor a normal human being...
Lol, Sam xx

Re: The Zen of face painting...
Bet she never had the opportunity to have her face painted as a kid, or any other fun stuff like that. You may just have fulfilled a life-long yearning for her!
Re: The Zen of face painting...
Yeah, no.... She's just an evil, overbearing, pain in the naughty word.
And the face painting niceness lasted all of about 15 hours, she's back to her usual tricks and now that Im getting more FP work and cant work my usual weekends, she's deliberately making my life hard. I let her know 3 weeks ago that this weekend I am flat out, so what dose my roster look like........
Working all weekend
So I have spent the last couple of days calling all of my work mates to get someone to cover my shift and stressing as I will now have a weekend that looks like this:
Friday: working in the evening
Saturday: start at 7am go till 1pm (day job) - 3pm to 5pm party - 5pm to 6pm horror make-up - 6:30 to late party
Sunday: start at 7am go till 11am (day job) - 11:30 to 1:30 party - 5pm to 7pm party
Its not really a gripe but she could have made my weekend not so packed.

Right that's it.... I'm going to make some glitter bombs then. And then lob them at her every time she comes within about a hundred feet of me. Lol.

SO true
I love how parents will ASK if they can be painted too! What a delight!! The answer is always, YES!
