Question about Paradise paints

So I tried out some Paradise paint today. And I'm wondering if those of you who use it regularly can tell me - is it normal for it to take a long time to dry? It seemed to stay quite creamy on my skin for several minutes, I couldn't paint details on it for what seemed like a very long time. And even after it dried enough to paint on top of it, it seemed easily smudge-able for quite a while afterwards, it almost seemed like it never did really dry completely but was a tiny greasy or something. Am I using too much water perhaps? I know that each brand has different properties, but this surprised me.

The colours are really nice though, quite vivid. And I didn't mind the scent, it was okay. I still prefer unscented things, but it didn't bother me. My skin was a little irritated when I was done, but I think that may have been because I painted and washed my arm several times.

Ok I tried it with less water, and it did dry faster. Very different than either Snaz or DFX, that's for sure. But does it generally have a greasier touch? (Sorry, can't think of a better word than greasy - it reminds me of greasepaint a little.) Even the dry cake, colour came off when I swiped my finger across it before I even added water. It seems a bit creamy, all on its own. Not saying that's bad or anything, just different.

Also, this is a 50 g Prisma cake and boy it seems a lot bigger and thicker than the DFX 50 g blending cakes! Is it just my imagination?

Paradise is a very creamy paint which is why it's loved for blending. It works well for face painting & body painting. Definitely use less water with it. I like to spray my sponge instead of my paints. It's easier to control the water amount & reduces paint waste. It also works well if you like to paint your base with a brush & makes wonderful feathery type painting.

I recently made the switch from using DFX for bases to using all Paradise for bases and just DFX for lines. I find the colors are a lot more vivid (in my opinion) than Snaz and that they blend very well.

Paints like snaz and paradise are "soft" by which I mean that they blend easily and accept colors to blend in. This may be why the DFX/WOLFE/TAG paints are not as crisp as they could be.

Paints with High pigmentation such as DFX, WOLFE, TAG are basically the same and do not blend as easily, ie once the paint dries sufficiently, applying another color on top will stay on top and be "crisper", lol"

Oh and I felt the same about my Paradise cake vs My dfx one. It seemes aot bigger

I use a lot of paradise for color bases and then use DFX/Wolfe for details.

Paradise is a make-up - all the other paints say face and body paint - but Mehron says it's make-up, so it makes sense that it would be creamier and would take a little more time to set.
You are right about DFX drying faster - but then it feels dry on the skin, paradise doesn't feel like it's there.... like your foundation.
When it is completely dry you should be able to run you hand over it with no smears.

I personally like how quick Paradise dries (I think it applies thinner than the waxier brands) and how well it stays put. I made a snowman on my inner wrist/arm and the joke we were making was we were going to have to call it Smudge. But it held up all afternoon, even though I was wearing sleeves.

I just bought some TAG white for outlines - it does seem to be a little brighter over colors but on its own - I can't tell the difference between doodles made in it and doodles made with the Paradise. Anyone use both Wolfe/DFX versus Tag and can say that the former are better and maybe I should have waited for some DFX to be available?

I do love Paradise black for outlines. My favorite white for dots is Snazaroo. My main kit is Paradise/Mehron now and I'm keeping some Snaz and now this Tag white I guess for anyone that might object to the smell. I'll keep playing with the tag. There was a moment last Saturday I was so upset how my reindeer white eyes turned orange when I was using the Paradise - lol!

I love DFX I can blend it no problem and I love that it dries faster so I can go right at it with another color. Speed is the thing when you have long lines. I don't get any complaints about it being stiff, and as much as I paint my face and repaint and repaint I would know lolololol. The colors are bolder to me all around.

I am doing a make-up party right after Christmas for 20 6 & 7 y/o girls and that is where I will use my paradise for the first time. Since it's just a make up party I don't have to worry colors being vibrant. But I will have my DFX just in case some of the girls do want an actual design.

I have left the paradise open since I got it and the scent is still strong, so hopefully another week of airing out may help. I will post pics after the event

Good luck - I hope they work for you. I had a girl last saturday who hated coconut but loved the smell of the paints. So go figure? I do love the vibrancy of the DFX!
