Storing your glitter tats/displaying options?
Hi guys,
I've just had a whole bunch of glitter tattoo stencils arrive in sheets - what is the best way to store them for use in your opinion? I have heaps of different designs so quite a lot to organise!
Also, how to you present the different options to your clients?
Thanks

Re: Storing your glitter tats/displaying options?
I separate them when I receive them. Then I store them in a plastic shoebox that has numbered tabs. The numbers coordinate with the image sheets I have created. So the client just gives me the number and we find it right away. I know others store in books & index files, but this is the easiest way for me right now.
This might change when I get more images. Right now I only have about 40 images and a stock of 10 per image. I also keep a lower stock than most because I am not a festival artist. I actually sell glitter tattoo kits where they pick their own designs and glitter colors and take home a kit to use themselves.
Hope this helps - Cyn

Re: Storing your glitter tats/displaying options?
If you are going to keep them in sheets a file box would be nice, but I use a paper cutter to cut them up as soon as I get them and store in binders alphabetically for my online shop (using baseball card style sheets.) I have TONS of binders.
For events I have 2 setups depending on wind conditions (we get a lot of trade-winds here) and setup area size.
1- On non windy days with extra space I use a pocket chart with colored index cards. I tape the stencil to the card and number the card. I keep a "Work Book" in my lap with the matching numbered stencils (5 to 10 of each--depending how popular)
2 -I created a "Look Book" to match my "Work Book" by placing stencils on Xerox, number each stencil , and place copy into sheet protector. You can make this look nice by using colored papers instead of plain white paper.

i bought a cd case holder (no not the binder type) the kind that is acrylic or plastic and has a 2 cd holder? It's like a filing cabinet
Re: Storing your glitter tats/displaying options?
Well, I'm a little insane when it comes to organization AND the number of designs I display at events. This is one of my storage boxes; for big shows I have 17 of these in a shelving unit. Check this gallery page on my website to see how this fits in with my display posters: http://faketoos.com/store/eventdisplays.html

That's brilliant! I've been looking for an affordable and space-saving way to file stencils and your idea inspired me to use a regular CD storage case...mine has 15 2-sided pockets so I can store 30 different designs and find them at the flip of a numbered page! Thank you!

Re: Storing your glitter tats/displaying options?
I use small photo albums (one photo pocket on each side of a page) - I add tabs with the numbers I post on the display (with the picture actual size), and have a series of photo albums I can reach for (some are 5"x7", most are 4"x6", some have 36 pockets, some have more, up to 100 pockets). I have a little folding plastic box (bag) with stand that can hold a dozen or more books. I don't have a wind issue (the stand can clamp to the table), but 3 people can work it at the same time and it takes a very small foot print on the table.

They can be purchased at Walmart in the craft section.
If you don't have access to Walmart, or they don't carry them, they can be ordered online from several sources. You can buy them one at a time here:
http://www.amazon.com/Akro-Mils-5905-Plastic-Storage-Hardware/dp/B000BQPZDK/ref=sr_1_5?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1302104265&sr=1-5
Or in a case of 6 (at a lower price) here:

THanks for the Amazon link, that looks even tidier and more professional. LOVE the Faketoos website and especially your signage! I would totally buy a package deal of tattoos if they came with a few of your awesome signs!

Well then, Sparklyone, email me through the website and we'll talk!
Re: Storing your glitter tats/displaying options?
This is how I display mine and it is great because it can spin around for people to see all the stencils at once and I don't have to go looking for them. Each side holds 40 different choices so 80 total
Re: Storing your glitter tats/displaying options?
Do you find you have any issues with people touching or taking stencils in your display? I don't want people taking their own out or even worse, walking away with them....
Just did, thank you!.Well then, Sparklyone, email me through the website and we'll talk!.

Re: Storing your glitter tats/displaying options?
couldn't pass it up when I found a zebra print one works good for storage and display .
Re: Storing your glitter tats/displaying options?
Nope not at all they are right next to me or my daughter. I know you can't really tell from the previous pic but on the other side of the table is my paint chair so I am right there and the blue chair is where my daughter sits. If you look close she keeps the supplies in the little basket up top. The pole the stencils hang from also swivels back and forth for ease of access.
The display is there for them to look at and only once they have paid does the stencil get pulled by my daughter or myself. I have never had anyone try to take them.
here is a pic from the other angle

Funfactory, Changing, are those shoe organizers? If not what are they lol
Re: Storing your glitter tats/displaying options?
Thank you ladies for taking the time to share your pretty set ups!
I realllllly want to have the plastic file box storage for stencils and a colorful display, but unfortunately I don't see a way to do that without limiting myself to a very specific inventory. I'm really surprised there is not a better (or ANY) real option out there for good, colorful and professional looking glitter tat signage.

Re: Storing your glitter tats/displaying options?
welllllllllllllllllll I have a few, and my major one is in the garage. But I will share a few things.
First when I decide to buy a stencil I copy the picture of the stencil I am buying and put it in a folder in my desktop... I then print out a sheet with the pics on it with corresponding numbers....
I then print out a larger one and have then on a board.
For smaller things where I don't want them to choose from 100 stencils... I use this........

Re: Storing your glitter tats/displaying options?
I really like the way Mark keeps his tattoos so yesterday I found a box just like that but instead of 18 spaces it has 28. It was 7.99 at AC More and I used a 50% coupon. You can move divider to fit longer and wider stencils.
Re: Storing your glitter tats/displaying options?
I keep my stencils in a CD file box with numbered index dividers like Suzy. I have my design options printed on a poster board with a number and name assigned to each design. I keep my glitter and supplies in a Stylist case from Caboodles. My customers just tell me what number they want we go from there.
I'm now perfectly happy with my setup. I do have larger stencils, but those are usually too big for little kids so those I DO keep in a separate little binder and only bring them out for the older crowd. I have well over 120 different stencils and I'm not worried about the "what if you find another stencil you want" thing...If I find something, I just tell my customers or stick a little picture of it on the board. Until I have more of demand for them or the larger stencils, I won't be making any specific signage for them.
- I had the hanging up storage pockets system last year and had a problem last year with a persistent little girl trying to get to my stencils (I was a one-woman-show) and decided I needed to make a change.
I tried a binder with plastic inserts that housed the stencils, but I had a problem with either people helping themselves to stencils or turning the book upside down.
Then I went to the binder with printed images of the stencils and keeping the stencils separate...but only one person could view it at a time.
