Re: What set's you apart from other painters?
I think a few things add up to set me apart - first is the fact I refer to my face painting as "face art" and that I offer premium face art with premium products.
I'm also rediculously nice - a product of too many years in hospitality - this works to my advantage but also my disadvantage - I get taken advantage of a lot... I'm working on this.
It helps that I'm a mum, and a big kid at heart...... it also helps that I went to private school and was brought up in an upper middle class neighbourhood - while my partner was brought up in the opposite - so I can mingle and communicate with any level of client....... the uppity ones love my over-pronunciation.
I have kids in my family with anxiety issues so I have no problem relating to kids with those.
Also I think my man did a kick arse job with my website, and I get back to people right away... these things make a big difference.
Lastly - because of all the wonderful help on this forum - my designs rock!
( and I handle myself more professionally)
All of these things come together to make me stand out.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the really bad face painters out there - for making us look sooooooo good!

Re: What set's you apart from other painters?
What sets me apart? Well, apart from the quality of my facepainting which is getting better thanks to the generosity of other facepainters, I really try to keep aware of my attitude on the job. Sometimes we can't help but be a bit stressed (40 kids and 20 mins to go ) but I've seen some facepainters really make their mood and stress very apparent to the punters, not good!! Ya gotta have a little grace.
I also try and include parents in 'the craic' and if the opportunity arises I try to talk them and teens into getting their faces done. Sometimes if there's time, Mummy really appreciates a little flower too.
(For those who are unaware of the term, 'craic' is the Irish for 'fun and sporting', usually spontanious, not to be mistaken for 'crack' which is either a very small gap or something that can land you in a lot more trouble!!)

I don't know that it sets me apart from any of you here, but I absolutely love what I do. I'll wake up excited, thinking "I get to paint someone today!" It's therapy for me.

OMG Jennifer - that's exactly how I feel as well. This is a gift that I enjoy sharing and seeing the children's reaction afterwards makes my day every time. I work a full time gig as a Corporate Trainer and have always studied art in college and on the side, and enjoy using my art background to have fun. It is definately theraputic!

Perry Noia wrote: I have found a lot of people who say they are afraid of clowns tell me that they are NOT afraid of me. Some ask if it's the amount of makeup but I think it has more to do with the way in which you approach people/children. The only times that kids have totally freaked out around me are when other children or parents are pushing them towards me (I prefer to let them come to me and if I see that they are uneasy I will kneel down to their level or even move away and play peek a boo to make them feel more in control of the situation).
Perry I'm terrified of clowns I have been known to cross a busy street to avoid them at all costs. its kind of a running joke in my family they love to torture me with it. But Im bound and determined to go to FABAIC this year so im going to have to get over it. But you do look less scarry cause not your entire face is covered at least to me.

Re: What set's you apart from other painters?
hmmm? I'm not a clown but I do dress up - I'm a living doll, I do face art and balloon art and I DANCE & play games (unless it's only face painting needed...then its just my lashes).
Like most of you I absolutely love, love, love what I do and I believe that when you do something whole heartedly it comes through and clients appreciate it.
I also bring music with me to my gigs...keeps everyone up beat and really happy and jamming while waiting for their turn. I'll give out numbers and let them dance around instead of waiting on a line (although and I'm sure many if not all of you get this...people tend to just crowd around as you paint with the oooohs & aaaahs! LOL! Love it!). *Oh, I do my best to keep faces at 3 minutes or less; especially with large parties....and I don't know if this will help anybody but my clients love that I remember names (theirs and most of their guests' especially all of the children's names....makes them feel special, important and its personal). All my clients are important to me
@SillyIzzy: OMG!!! Love that you're only 13 and have a love for the arts!!! My daughter is also 13 and has her own set of paints (I take her with me to gigs and she helps out really well). KEEP AT IT...You're going to me AMAZING!!!!

Re: What set's you apart from other painters?
I do glitter tattoos, face painting, and balloon twisting. If two artists are needed, I get my cousin to help out and therefore the price is lower then say if I would get another professional friend to partner with. I'm 27, so I associate well with the little ones as well as with the pre teens and teens and well adults as well. With the 10-17 crowd, I tend to joke around with them and get them involved and they usually ease into getting something done (eye design, tattoo, etc...). I also offer themed packages for fp, gt, and bt...Oh yeah: I SPEAK SPANISH FLUENTLY!! I'm Bolivian so it helps I do thank God for giving me this talent b/c i LOVE it!!
Re: What set's you apart from other painters?
Ooh, what part of Bolivia are you from?
I know, it's totally off-topic.

Re: What set's you apart from other painters?
What sets me apart is I really love people and am good at 'drawing them out' into the fantasy of what we do. I don't apologize for my high standards and love to educate. I'm an awesome teacher (actually taught my 1st facepainting class tonight) and look forward to developing that skill further into the face and body art side of my passions. I love networking and bringing other artists together to uplift each other so we can raise the bar in our industry. My graphic design and marketing skills make it easy for me to promote my business and look professional so client's feel confident they've got the right person for the job
Re: What set's you apart from other painters?
Well technically, I was born and raised in Northern VA, but my mother is from La Paz and my father is from Cochabamba. I've visited there plenty of times. Plus here in the NoVa area, there are TONS of bolivians so, its like once your known, then your "IN", lol...I've done a few of the parties so hopefully it will catch on. They mostly want a clown (there is a bolivian clown in the area) but some are catching on that sometimes a fp/bt is enough b/c it suits kids/teens/adults. Now if only i can convince them to I'm worth the pay more then their beer/liquor (trust, bolivian parties NEVER run out of alchy, lol)
Re: What set's you apart from other painters?
We were looking into going to Cochabamba to work with kids there a while back. It looked like a very interesting place to go.

Re: What set's you apart from other painters?
It's great! Bolivia has cold, hot, humid, tropical, jungle, desert, etc... weather! Each state is different. I hope to go there soon again during christmas (their summer season).
Re: What set's you apart from other painters?
i am different in many of the SAME ways folks have described above. I tailor designs for each party - I am great with kids because I truly enjoy the interaction - I am professional, and articulate with clients and deliver great service... Now this may seem odd, it does to me at least, but I find that one of the things that set me and my site apart, is that my gallery shows people of color. I am not sure why the wonderful painters in my area show only white kids.. but it does seem to be the case. I appreciate people and people appreciate me!
