Hello from Northern Michigan
Hi! I have been reading posts for awhilenow, but haven't posted anything or introduced myself. I have not been painting faces for long, just a few charity things, like Relay for Life. I kind of stumbled into it by accident because a friend of mine heads the Relay team where I work and she knew that I do some artistic things and take art classes at the college (I am working on my fine arts degree) and she asked if I could do face paintings for the Relay events. I reluctantly agreed. I live in a small town in northern Michigan and there is NO professional face paint up here whatsoever and I have not been able to afford to order any (but I am ordering tomorrow, YAY!!) I had to do the events with yucky Palmer face paints, and I know how you guys feel about those, but it was all I had. I am really looking forward to getting my new paints and really practicing before doing anything else, even for charities, although I've been asked to do something for the Humane Society next weekend. I figure, I am not making money, and if the kids are happy and I am practicing and the charity is actually making something then it is worthwhile. I stick mostly with simple cheek art. Thanks for letting me be a small part of such a great group.

Welcome to the forum. Many of the painters here started w/ Palmers. Buy are you in for a wonderful surprise when your new paints come in!
Re: Hello from Northern Michigan
Thanks, I knew you guys would be very welcoming, as I have seen you welcome others into the group. I am very excited and can't wait to order and get my paints, and I do plan on ordering from the forum shop. I am just trying to figure out what I really need, and then alot of practice, practice and more practice. Again, thanks, and I look forward to being a part of the forum group.

Thank you all again for your welcomes. Sam and PatB, I see you are both in MI, PatB in Detroit and Sam, where are you? I am in Alpena. Psalmbook, I lived in Jax for 14 years. Well, around Jax, like Callahan and Yulee, but I just say I lived in Jax. I loved it, but I don't miss the heat.

I'm in Livonia, about 20 minutes outside Detroit. Sam, you're not too far away! I'm at 275 and 6 Mile. We should jam

Re: Hello from Northern Michigan
Sadly, I am too far away from anyone to join in. If I could show you my hand, I am almost at the top, right on Lake Huron. I am not sure how much business I could POSSIBLY get in this area, but I want to try. This is such a depressed area of a depressed state, but kids still want fun. I don't think I've seen any other northern Michiganders on here, but I could have missed them.

Re: Hello from Northern Michigan
@ flutterby: My husband and I went on a weekend motorcycle ride through your area this summer. Very beautiful! We did notice a lot of closed shops.
Don't despair, though, there are opportunities out there! You just have to market smarter and put yourself out there.
@PatB: That would be great! We may have something in the works now, I'll let you know!
