First of all, I would like to show you my newly made logo / watermark:

Logo and using other peoples designs :) Rosepr11
(This design is from a youtube video)

What do you think? Smile

When I paint, I normally am very much inspired by other peoples designs. Sometimes pretty much copying them, other times mixing different designs, or adding my own "twist". What do people expect me to do then? Do I state that this design is inspired by xx every time? Can I put pictures of faces I have painted - but are inspired by others designs - on my webpage (which I haven't very much made yet)?
When I make it from a youtube video, or a step-by-step I expect that it is fully ok, but what if it is a picture from a website, in here, or somewhere else? Very Happy

As I have written before, I don't make money painting, don't know if I am ever going to, but mostly paint my own kids, and sometimes their friends ... What a Face

You do not have to say anything. If you painted it, it is yours!

You can say you copied a design from someone, but sometimes their painting is a copy of someone elses anyway so why bother?

If you copy something exactly and want to give credit it is up to you, but I don't feel it is necessary to do so. Particularly if you have changed the design to suit your own style or in some other way.

Face painting is an art of copying ... really. Let's face it okay. Every tiger is a copy of something ... a tiger at the least, or somewhat like one someone else painted (say, Mark Reid for example).

While I will fight to the death for copyrights and the theft of photos of MY work, I have no problem if other people copy the design and paint it themselves without aknowledging that I created the orginal design (if, indeed it was actually a "Shannon original" and not my take on something someone else painted!)

Yes, that's how most if not all of us started. The designs will become your own as you work on & find your own style.
For example... I do the exact same rose face on your pic but it still looks different.
I also love your logo!

Love the logo. Can I copy it? haha

I agree with Shannon. Even of you tried to copy a Van Gogh....it is still your painting. No need to give credit where credit is due. YOU may have copied the design but you did not photocpoy it. Know what I mean?

Love the You Tube creation. Great Job. You should be making money doing this. Even as a part time 2nd job. That's what I do.

Totally agree with Shannon, & yes we all start somewhere. I think your logo is simply gorgeous I love how the butterfly, spider & web are incorporated into it. It so says face painter!! I just watched that youtube video yesterday, I'm going to have a go at this design too, so there you go.

Thank you for all the nice comments - I'll stick with that logo then Very Happy. I am playing around making a homepage as well Smile.
And yeah, copy away Wink.

@ Michelle: I made it in Paint Shop Pro and PhotoShop. It is not vector, just quite a big pixelpicture... But I saved it with transparent background, making it easier to change the color and background Smile. I am not good enough working with vector to make it like that Wink
