International Harvester Designs?
Okay, so I have a major event coming up at the end of this month... Some of you may be familiar with the Red Power Roundup? It's the International Harvester National Convention, (Craig Morgan wrote a song about these tractors) and it's coming to my hometown this year and Mom and I are going to be THE facepainters for the whole thing. My dad and 2 uncles are on the planning committee and everyone in my family are members in the producing chapter. Well, that is how we know we'll be the only facepainters there, but we've also been aske to come up with about 5-10 designs especially for the event. I have a few cheek art ideas already, but that's it. I also know I can throw together a design of red, black, and white eye swirls and that would be well liked, but I was wondering if you fine folks have any ideas?
Here's what I have so far:
The International Harvester Logo:
An International Harvester Tractor:
And a model logo that goes on the different tractors, a different letter would be in the circle dependin on what model the kid wants:
Any other ideas? I know this is probably a shot in the dark, considering a lot of you probably aren't from major farming communities like I am, and probably have NO idea what I'm talking about, but I just thought I'd ask.

Re: International Harvester Designs?
Hm... What about "tractor track marks" across the face, as if one of the tractors drove across? Maybe the boys would find that cool...
An "old time" farmer - straw hat, piece of straw out the mouth and maybe some freckles. Not very beautiful, but could be fun

Edit: One more:
A sunset face, with the silhouette of a tractor and straw / grain (what do you call it, you know, the field where the grain grows)

Re: International Harvester Designs?
I wouldn't sweat this too much or put an extrodinary amount of time into coming up with designs. They are still going to ask for the stand-by's and will hardly pick what you have designed. They are nice, but this is just the way it goes.
Have you thought about contacting Linda Adams on here for some special tatoo stencils. I think she special makes them in logos and such.
Good luck!

Re: International Harvester Designs?
Yeah, like SuzySparkles who asked for chocolate designs and got lots - made a fun competition, and ended up not painting any of them .
But when they have been asked to come up with designs for the event, wouldn't you do them then?
I just thought it was fun to get ideas

Re: International Harvester Designs?
Sunset w/ a farm in the forground. I think the tire tracks would be a great also. This is a regular request anyway.
Re: International Harvester Designs?
I was at a tractor pull (with representation from both the red and green tractors), and only painted regular designs. Then again I wasn't offering any tractor-themed designs. I think the kids will be happy with the normal designs.
The ones you came up with are great, though! I hope you get a chance to paint them.

Re: International Harvester Designs?
I had a request for the John Deere symbol yesterday. Luckily another kid in line had a cap with the logo. I really like what you have so far Punky, lots of great ideas too. I think the sunset tractor would be popular around here, I'll have to try it.
Re: International Harvester Designs?
I worked at a tractor pull also... didn't paint a single tractor. Lots of horses though.

Re: International Harvester Designs?
ooh... chickneek, you just inadvertently gave me an idea for another idea! Since I.H. fans are all against John Deere... what if I painted a yellow deer with a crosshairs/bullseye over/around it? THAT could be funny, and I could see a lot of the hard core I.H. adults going for that... or at least having their kids get it!

Re: International Harvester Designs?
Love it Punky! Red vs Green the eternal battle in the rural communities!
Re: International Harvester Designs?
Got that right! I'm a die hard I.H. fan... green tractors have no business being within a mile of my place! (unless it's a oliver that is! )

Re: International Harvester Designs?
Ahem... JD rules up here. I don't think there is a IH dealer within 600 kms.

Re: International Harvester Designs?
Well, technically, there isn't an IH dealer anywhere anymore, they don't make them anymore, which is why they are classics. John Deeres, IMHO, are way more expensive, don't run any better, and all you're paying for is the green paint and that fancy logo.

Re: International Harvester Designs?
but that's just the way it is with tractors... IH vs. JD... just like in racing it's Gordon vs. Earnhardt or in sports around my area its Sox vs. Cubs or Bears vs. Colts... these battles will continue until the end of time....(or until all these franchises go out of business).

Re: International Harvester Designs?
JD rules around here too, my neighbour is a JD mechanic and has a banana seat bike with ape hanger handlebars painted in yellow and green with the symbol, his christmas wreath is all JD along ornaments with his ice bucket and various decor in his home. I'm pretty sure some people even have john deere tattoos in these parts.
Re: International Harvester Designs?
My husband wants to get a Minneapolis Moline tractor if we ever get our "hobby farm"! So funny. My 3 year old would just be "over the moon" if we got a tractor!!!! any brand.
Re: International Harvester Designs?
OMG Wyndy I LOVE YOU! I'm a minniapolis moline girl before IH!!! but since a lot of people haven't heard about them I don't haven't got a huge leg to stand on... :/
I actuall y have my own Minneapolis Moline! She's my baby, my dad and I restored her 3 years ago, and I love her to death! She's a MM model R made in 1948 and she has a really rare three point hitch attachment on the back!
Here she is, just 'cuz I love showing her off!

Re: International Harvester Designs?
No, I do not... I watch them all the time though! Went to 6 last year in the NTPA series. I don't to stock pulls either, though, it's really expensive and hard on the tractors. No, my baby is a show tractor... she's meant to be and stay pretty....(so are all the other 13 antique tractors we own!).

Re: International Harvester Designs?
yup, and every one of them is restored to showroom quality. My dad does that. Between him and my uncle, they know the most about tractors of anyone I know, and they are doing such and epicly amazing job putting together this Red Power Roundup that I wanted to offer just as epic designs. I've got about 5 worked up right now, hoping to make that 10 before next Wednesday when the show starts!

Re: International Harvester Designs?
Okay, so getting back on topic, Here are two more designs I've come up with from the help and suggestions of all you fine people.
John Deere deer in crosshairs
Tractor tire tracks going down the arm... couldn't find an eye pleasing way to put all that on the face...

Re: International Harvester Designs?
I would make the tractor marks brown the inbetween green where the crops were not smushed down by the tractor. The black looks a bit harsh. I love the designs you have come up with.
Great job.
Great job.

Re: International Harvester Designs?
Designs are fantastic, I especially got a kick out of the John Deere one!
Re: International Harvester Designs?
Okay, the brown and stuff was actually an after thought, lol. I made the tire tracks and though "those are kinda boring by themselves...." so the rest of the design ensued, lol.
