Detailz Depression. Empty Detailz Depression.

Post by Tash Mon Apr 26, 2010 12:12 am

Hi everybody,
Anyone try/use the Detailz range by Mehron??
I bought the black white silver and gold ones thinking they would help me with lining and fine detail......
not so.
They smell kinda like a texta, and you have to redip the applicator thingy over and over and over, everytime you do a detail. You also have to hold the little pot in one hand when you redip as it's such a snug fit you have to pull the lid and the pot with two hands. This doesn't work for me and I find the little sponge pointy thing is impossible to get a good line with it. Teardrops always have the ditch in the middle and ticker edges.
It does great dots but whats the point if you can only do like four dots and then you have to pick the damned thing up again and re-dip and pull apart.
Am I doing something wrong?
Or are these things just a bad Idea?
I'm seriously thinking of trading them for some starblend powder. ( If that was at all possible)
Help!

All I use mine for is dots. And it does get annoying having to re-dip all the time. I think I'll just use mine up and not buy anymore.

I have never used them but the majority we had for sale at the costume store dried up and had to be thrown out, maybe only the white and black was getting purchased.

I feel the same way about them, I also dont like having to open, close and put it away every time you use it. It takes extra time. With a normal brush you just dip it in the color and dotdotdot Razz With detailz you have to do all these extra things Very Happy lol.

I think they are good for people that go to a party and sometimes want to decorate their eyes/face a bit more with some nice dots. Instead of only using make-up. Something like that.

Always thought it was a useless idea.

1) As make-up you can't use an applicator and return to the bottle - as it will contaminate the product (just like mascara).

2) All you can use it for is dots

3) you have to shake and reload constantly

4) it is easier to use a small brush!

I like them for some things like: blood around tiger teeth, the teeth if I have forgotten them, gums for monsters, yellow dots in girl design - especially on black lines, eyes on lizards and so.

But I don't think I will re-buy, just use a small brush and my normal colours.

Maybe a simple idea to help. I also have 2 of them. Never use them b/c I honeslty always forget.

But, maybe just use the wand for your dots and forget the actual paint inside that silly tight bottle. So, if you add some water to your cake colour of choice, make a little pool of paint and dip away. saves a hand and dipping in and outta the bottle constantly.

I am going to try it this weekend.
Good luck.

I use it for larger parties and I dont want to use my wolfe white. It's easier to place dots on black outline without having to worry about my wolfe "getting dirty" ...who cares about the details? it cleans itself out when you reload Smile my wolfe white is too precious lol

I loved them when I 1st started face painting but now would rather make my dots w/ a brush. They are great for beginners for dots.

I have them too. Suckered up for them when I first started painting. When they are gone - I am done with them. (Thinking they may go to the kids' fp kit! : ) hee hee

I mostly used them for the little dots in the center of flowers and outside of designs and in my tiger dot/spotting around the eyes. Totally agree with all the comments here... hygienically questionable, once you achieve more brush control they are unnecessary. The dippy pots of white and black would be far more cost effective and sensible.

The applicator is the same as the foam tipped liquid eyeliner applicators... exactly. I have those as I clean them up as you never know when it might come in handy.

They are simply pointed cotton swabs... I've used dollar store brands and they are good for cleaning up boo-boos and other various things... with that sort of item go cheap, you don't need to buy top of the line.

I've got the Mehron Detailz. Eagerly bought the gold, silver and white thinking they would be a great add for quick pretty details.

Sorely disappointed in the performance as well. I thought the ones I bought were old, but after reading this I realize they're probably just not that good.

I have never used the detailz. Are they in any way similar to the liquid bling? I have the LB in like a coppery/gold and silver, but have yet to use them.

Nothing like it changing - in fact the detailz are really like nothing else - they are stinky too like a texta, or sharpie which is strange because yu would think they are a liquid form of their paint - but I guess not.
The only thing I can think they are similar too would be nail polish as bad as that sounds..... they are in the same sort of little bottle.... but the wand is not a brush it's a little pointy rubber thing.
YOu have to keep dipping it back in to get more paint and then use both hands one to hold the tiny pot and the other one to pull the wand out - it's a tight fit so it's not easy to get in and out - it's frustrating and stupid - a lot of effort for very little painting....... that said ...do you want mine to try out? LMAO hahahahaha oh I think I am sooooooooo funny!
Can't give the damn things away they are going to sit my case and go off as ar as I'm concerned I'm inclined to send them back to Mehron with a note saying these things are a joke!
Stick with your liquid bling - and learnt o do details with a brush and save yourself the headache.

Well the only thing I actually find them useful for is "details", when painting a face on cheek art or something else that has very fine details. As far as using for outlining on larger designs, forget about it...you'll be dipping that little brush in and out until pigs fly. It just aint gonna happen. Details are kinda a gimmick, all you need is one of the finest brushes and your color of choice....or even something like liquid eyeliner...much cheaper and much more bang for your buck.

another note about the detailz...if the sit for any period of time they seperate and the are a PAIN to get remixed, the ball gets stuck in the thickness of the pigment when it seperates from the more fluid liquid in them. You will have carpal tunnel in no time trying to get those babies remixed! A+ for idea, F+ for execution.

The applicator is the same as in some liquid eyeliners - a sharp felt tip, like a pen. It really is quite useless.
