Containers for split cakes
Hi,
Can anyone advise me of a container that I could use to make split cakes that I can buy in the UK. I love the Loew Cornell paint saver but cannot seem to get it here. Any other ideas?
Thanks.

Re: Containers for split cakes
Go check out your neighborhood fishing tackle isle, or craft containter section. There's probably something there you can use. I use little 1"x1" stackable bead containers to make my splits. I had them leftover from my beading stuff because they didn't stack and stay together very well... beads everywhere, but fine for paint.

The trick to good containers is that they can't be too deep or else it is a nightmare to get the sponge and brush into. I LOVE the 20 gram containers I sell. The are deep enough to hold a lot of paint and the lid is a little high too so you can actually mound the paint without too much trouble. And they are the perfect size of most sponges. I know it sounds like a shameless plug, but at $1.25 each I am not going to become a millionare, but I LOVE THESE.
I am actually thinking about slicing off the lids and putting them all into a flat palette of sorts.
Another cool thing with these guys is that two minis can fit into one. If you figure out a good shared middle color you can put two 10 gram cakes in one container. Haven't made on yet for myself, but it is coming.
I took four of the minis on a job yesterday with stict rules to use them, but it was hard to grab them and a brush when the big cakes with a sponge or just so much faster.
Does anyone have a good way of sponging on the mini style splits? Should be another topic. OH well rambling a bit.
Here is a link to those containers.

Hi Metina,
These are perfect, just what I am looking for but you don't post to the UK.
I can't find them here.

Re: Containers for split cakes
I will post to them to you in the UK. However you will need to pay the shipping costs and insurance. PM me what you would like and I will send you the shipping costs along with estimated shipping times.

I took a half of a "speed sponge" and cut it in half. So....1/4th of a speed sponge (ewww math). It fits my minis great and I have the option to drag or tap on the paint, whichever. I do love the 20 gram containers! I totally cut off the top like you are thinking about Metina, and then I just close my palette box. It works great and speeds up my set up, because voila! I'm ready to paint! I forgot to mention I velcro my paints into my palette so they don't move around....
Re: Containers for split cakes
I use the flat side of the cut sponges.........in case there was confusion...
