I just bought an older Melges 24 sportboat. It has never had bottom paint on it. As far as I know it has never had any barrier coats on the bottom either. Although I'm not positive how to tell. The boat has always been dry sailed. I am not in a position to dry sail. It will be in freshish water from about end of May to first of October. So I'm wondering what the process is for me. Some local yocals are telling to slap some bottom paint on and go sailing. But I want to do it right. So am assuming barrier coats first. So whats the proper procedure and materials? Still want to maximize performance as much as possible. Thanks.
