forum appears to be spammed with fake usernames

since late march, it seems the forum is being spammed by fake user names. they have unusual spellings, often with numbers, which is typical of spam names, according to wikipedia. you can see how many appear each day, it's over 600 since late march.

i sent metina a pm on march 30, asking about it, and again yesterday, with some information on how the host of the forum suggests using either captcha or a simple question that real people would answer, to screen out spam.
