Best orange for tigers
What orange works best for classic tigers? I have a Snazaroo one at the moment, only because I bought it when I first started, and it's awful. I just bought a Diamond FX orange but it seems a bit red for a tiger to me....any tips?
Re: Best orange for tigers
I'm actually loving orange Starblends for my tigers... it goes on dry and FAST and it looks pretty good - you can immediately start painting your stripes over top.
Re: Best orange for tigers
I vacillate between neon orange (which POPS) and metallic orange, which gives a beautiful sheen--or letting the kids pick a fantasy tiger color. (There, wasn't that a huge confusion?!)
Re: Best orange for tigers
have you tried mixing the dfx orange (or the snaz for that matter) with yellow or gold to tone it down? seems like a shame you can't use it since you just bought it.

Re: Best orange for tigers
I actually love Snaz orange for a tiger, think it just takes some practice to get the right thickness and even coverage! I was trained on snaz and painted tigers every day using it for 5 years (so I'm pretty stuck in my ways!). Since moving on I've replaced nearly every other Snaz colour except for my orange! My current tiger uses orange snaz, DFX white and black and Snaz light brown.

Nice tiger!
Mmm, maybe I need to work on the consistency - because all my other paints are Diamond FX now it stands out as thin and patchy....ok will work on that but also try mixing up my Diamond FX and Snaz oranges and see what happens there. Thanks everyone!

For tigers I made a custom cake with"
Pearl TAG yellow
Regular Yellow
Regular Orange
Regular Red.
all of them TAG, I really love the pear yellow on the center and the close out that red gives to the design.

Re: Best orange for tigers
I usually don't do full face tigers, I am not a fan of painting the mouth are, but here are some I have done and I always try to put the pearl yellow in the center.
Re: Best orange for tigers
I have been using strictly Starblends for tigers for a couple of years now. I apply with a small powder puff (Cover Girl or Maybelline - not sure which)....

My first year painting-used TAG pearl orange & pearl yellow...(This was BEFORE I took Mark Reid's class at FABAIC):

Camelon makes a color called tiger and it's amazing. Mix in some tag copper and some white in the right areas.

Re: Best orange for tigers
Lot's of artist swear by Kryolan, they make more colors than any company and have the truest orange. And pearl colors too, that does make a nice soft look. To swing the pendulum, some painters like a bit of Kryolan Dayglow Orange to make the face pop bright.
