Finding your Arty Brush DVD
I just finished watching the DVD and I have to say that this is the first face painting item that overall, I'm disappointed with. Being a newcomer to the face painting world, I'm certainly not an expert but more than likely it is the newbies who are purchasing these kind of DVDs so it's just my take on it.
Positives:
- the demo of the brush strokes was nice and I'm glad that they repeated each stroke 3 times. Sometimes, the angle of the camera kept the viewer from seeing the brush tip so all you got to see was the back of the hand. This wasn't helpful.
- I liked the explanation of how to do flames.
- I liked the following designs: shark attack, peacock princess, birds in paradise, puppy, rainbow heart, cheetah, rose princess and the basic princess until they added the butterfly and then it wouldn't have passed the 'what is it test'.
Negatives:
-The following designs ended up picking up underneath paint and smearing the design. Unless you were watching the DVD, I'm not sure you would be able to tell what it was.... angel wings, floral garden, rose butterfly rainbow lotus, some of the fish.
- I would have liked to have known the names of the cakes that they were using.
- the video wasn't in real time (they kept cutting and fast forwarding) thus you really didn't know how long it took for each design.
- Wolfe metalllic rose was used on all the girls' lips even though it didn't go with the colors in their design.
- Some of the designs had too many 'things' in it and when it was all put together it kinda of looked 'messy' (for lack of a better term)
Maybe I'm way out in left field on this DVD and I would be interested in hearing other's comments (I haven't checked past threads out yet so maybe this DVD has already been covered).
I understand that there is another Arty Brush DVD out there, maybe it's better but for now, I would say save your money and use the you tube videos on the mini rainbow cakes.

Re: Finding your Arty Brush DVD
Hiya,
I did a review on this as well. I had the same concerns as you, but thought for only $25, it wasn't that bad. Many of them are $40.
I kinda agree with you on some of the designs looking messy, but still liked the technique. And yes, what were they thinking not mentioning the cakes they were using? As much as Heather is into marketing, I can't believe she missed this opportunity!
Oh well, I am keeping mine, but you can always trade yours off in the swap shop.
Thanks for posting!

I agree with this review also.
Trying to eek out regular full face designs with a gimicky product is just too much.
Using that same product to make something easier that is typically time consuming is smart!
I think they need to spend some time researching the style of painting that "Name Painters" use and come up with cool little cheek art pieces.

That name painter vid was GREAT! I have to see more of that. I wonder what paint they use, and the brushes are not like I have ever seen before. Thanks.

Okay, that's my new obsession!! I'm getting the starter kit, and I think it's going to be a GREAT supplement to my festival offerings!
