How to Estimate Number of Artists?
Good morning dear friends,
I have been asked to give a quote for a large walk here in my city. They estimate 1000 walkers at this fundraiser/awareness campaign.
Do any of you have estimates that you use to figure out # of artists to send? (eg, for every 1000 people, 20% will get painted etc)
Any guidance would be appreciated, I promised to send some numbers today

Re: How to Estimate Number of Artists?
The lst year at a walk in my area, usually 1 face painter is sufficient...after that year that I will try to upsell as I see the need. That being said, if they will do 2 painters--do it! It is easier to get things going.
I would take some "extras" (glitter/flash tattoos or henna, balloons or the like) in case it is slow to get started. First impressions can't be redone, so you want to hit the round running.

This post is going to be completely unhelpful but I always try to get an estimated number of kids because they're the ones that want painted, of course this varies by area/crowd. When they say about 20 kids they really mean 5... 50 usually sees about 15. Thousands is about 150 but that is just my area, I don't know about yours

Re: How to Estimate Number of Artists?
I paint at the MS Walk every year (12 in a row now I think). The teams are mixed and there are some kids.
Even on busy years it is just me and it is usually slow.
Some will come get painted BEFORE they walk, others when they finish, but the event ends at a set time and I'm done.
There are a lot of kids that don't want to get painted at these events.
If they are estimating 1000 walkers you might get 50. Remember - a lot of teams at these things dress up and paint their faces themselves.

Re: How to Estimate Number of Artists?
We do a couple of walks every year that always need us adding entertainers--we're up to 2 balloon people & 3 & 4 face painters this year --but those are the exceptions...If you are very proactive with your arts, and entertain: ie: track down some kiddos or fun adults so you have no "empty time"--it can be a winner with hourly rates. (Our other walks are usually 2 face painters/tattoo people & 1 balloon person--even in the dead of winter. (But then, we are a very actively athletic area.)
Re: How to Estimate Number of Artists?
I just did a walk a few weeks ago and I was run ragged for the 3 hour I was there, and this one is a bit longer and much bigger. I'm going to give them a quote for 2 artists and see what they say.
This is also based off of the original communications when the organizer asked if I had a team and could give more painters.
And yes, if it is slow we can crack out the glitter tats!
Thanks everyone

Re: How to Estimate Number of Artists?
the walks I have done have been slow. Usually it's just me, or also Aryn is booked. We usually book for 2 hours and that's plenty.
Re: How to Estimate Number of Artists?
Wow, maybe it's just me, but I did 2 runs last summer and a walk a couple weekends ago and I was busy the whole time. Ended up working late at all 3 because my line management sucks at the moment too LOL!!
Re: How to Estimate Number of Artists?
I have painted at the Teen Challenge Walk for Hope for like 7 years and every year it gets busier. There were 4 painters, 2 balloon artists, a couple of crazy hair people, bouncy houses, etc. We were busy painting the whole time.

yeah I guess each walk is different. Like with any event, you gotta be there one year to really get a feel for the number of people.
