Attending Mark Reid Class!!

I feel like a kid going to the first day of school!

Has anyone taken a class before? It seems like it might be a smaller group so I am ready for some actual real person help and not just youtube videos!

Maybe this will bump my confidence level to actually pursue working my business and not just doing it for enjoyment!

I have taken his class a long time ago. The group was around 10 painters then, and he really came and checked on everyone's progress during the class.
He'll probably start off with some linework/brush techniques, and will really come and see if you're getting it, and correct you if needed.
Bring a practice head if you have one, so you can follow his lead when he's demonstrating designs. He'll explain what he's doing, and you can feel free to ask questions, he's happy to answer them.
Also bring wet wipes to clean the practice head between designs, and a camera to photograph both his work and the work you did on the practice head. It's important that you remember how YOU did the designs with his guidance as well, and you'll forget otherwise

I took Mark Reid's "Fast Festival Faces" at FABAIC last year. He gave good, solid, reasonable guidance. He was down-to-earth and approachable.
I use his guidelines in work I do today.

Amy, I have taken many classes with Mark.  Some GREAT artists, are great at their art, but not so good at teaching.  Some, like me, are pretty darn good at teaching, but really only fairly average at art.  Mark is the whole package.  A great artist, a great teacher, and nice on top of that! I have never been disappointed.

Which event of his are you attending?  The June Vegas Bootcamp?  I know he has many coming up soon.

i don't know about that lilly, your style is my favorite, and i am trying to practice the watercolor effect you get, i think your work is beautiful

I was a big fan of Mark's before I even got to take a class from him and now I consider him a friend.

You can see his work shine through in a LOT of my paintings...my current profile with the green butterfly is one.

What I find brilliant about his face painting work is that it is very mysterious...in other words seems very difficult but he's such a good teacher that if you just pay attention you'll be doing beautiful work like his.

I'm so glad you are getting to take a class from him. Give him a big hug from me.

It is just at a house in Colorado no big event, but I am really hoping this boosts my confidence and lets me feel more proud of my work--

Maybe you can come over to Vegas?  There are about 5 days of face painting stuff going on in early June.  Mark and I are doing a two day Bootcamp, the 3 days before are a Jamtacular event.

Amy…did you take Mark's class yet? I took his "Pre-class" at FABAIC in May 2012. It was his Festival Faces. Most of my business is from corporate clients w/long lines, so it was exactly what I needed. Everyone will tell you: he's a great artist & a great teacher. Believe it! If I took the same class again, 3 years later, I'd get even more out of it now. This is such a great experience for you, especially in a smaller venue like this. ENJOY!!!

BTW, I've also taken a class from both Lilly & Denise, who are wonderful teachers. They both have a great sense of humor & are full of such useful advice, I hate for their classes to end.

OK--I just got back.

I learned so many things that I kind of knew, but wasn't sure about until his class. I had a lot of AH-HA moments and I am so excited to get some more practice and start making some great progress!

I will try to post some stuff soon. Plus my daughters got to be models and they loved it too!

I did take Mark's class! It was awesome.

Sounds like it was a "layover" class while he visited his family and waited for his flight. Some of the other ladies had worked with him before and I think he was doing it for fun.

There were only about 4 of us and I asked lots of questions and got lots of one and one help. I feel really good about where I am at and where I can go.

I think I taught myself some really bad habits and he gave me some great new and more 'proper' ways to paint.

The first day he went over the basics of lines and did a few faces--the next night he had us do more mimicking his style. I really learned so much!

I would LOVE to take Denise's class--her videos brighten my day and I love listening to her giggle while she paints away!

I missed who Lilly is--sorry--even though I have been around for a while I still feel like a newbie.
