Global Bodyart & Tag Swatches Empty Global Bodyart & Tag Swatches

Post by CraftyPossum Wed Feb 11, 2015 10:47 pm

Hey all,

Just a quick review/test of some new global colours I just got that I haven't seen tested elsewhere yet. Overall I am loving the 'new' Global Bodyart range with the bonus for me being that it is one of the cheaper brands available here in Australia. The colours I have tried have overall been vivid and nicely pigmented, though most colours are quite dark. Also I have found that many colours seem to 'crust over' when they dry and need a fair drink to properly activate them. The exception to this so far is the yellow... Which incidentally is a super gorgeous colour, it's brighter than Tag reg yellow and more opaque than Tag neon but its GLOOOPY, I am trying to live with the gloopiness as it is easily my fave yellow but I hope that they reformulate this to make it a little firmer like the other colours.

Y'all have probably seen all the Tag colours swatched by now but I have included them for the sake of reference.

I love, love the Global pearl purple, it's so pretty if not super shimmery and would be nice for bases but unlike many other Global colours, doesn't seem fantastic for line work (but I haven't really tested that out yet). The white (not shown here) is again nice for bases but Wolfe White still wins for me for highlight intensity.

The Global teal is much more blue than the Tag Teal, but still really pretty and definitely will find a place somewhere in my kit. Be aware that the gray has a massive colour shift, those of you who are familiar with painting with acrylics (on canvas or paper of course) will understand that this means the colour goes on very light and dries several shades darker which can impact shading. The picture represents the dry colour.

I like the Global pearl pink better.

TAG also has a magenta pink that is closer to the Global pink. But after trying it, i like the regular pink better.

The global magenta looks nice though! Not impressed with global teal.

I think the DFX metallic purple is better then the global purple.

I like the light yellow option for Global, might look into that.

Ah, I haven't tried DFX metallic purple, I may have to give it a try. The light yellow is a nice option for muzzles and such for a less harsh look, I also made a one stroke for roses and such that is Global Magenta, G pink, G light yellow and white which looks really pretty. I'll have to post a sample

Please do!

Yes when i don't want to go for a straight white mussel I usually just sponge over the area with the color (yellow orange mix) and paint white over top to make it lighter.

I have been looking for a color half way between orange and yellow for some split cakes, I'm thinking about picking up a TAG Golden Orange for this.

Totally recommend the DFX metallic purple. It's great for a dark online on girly things when you don't want to use black.

Global regular purple is also nice as a dark outline. As is their dark green. I use the purple all the time for outlining butterflies and cats, it's a little darker than dfx metallic purple.

Swatches of both the green and purple:

Yes, I love the Global green, purple and blue for outlining rather than using black.

I did unfortunately have a massive issue with global white over the weekend. It was raining, the air was humid and I had put some Gobal white and grey in my kit (part in a white/teal/blue split and part in a half and half with the grey. The white, even though it hadn't been touched by water directly, seemed to pull moisture from the air or something because it was completely sticky and genuinely unusable.

Yeah i have had issues with my paints on humid days too. I found it happened worse with my wolf colors, then my TAG or DFX.

I like the DFX metallic purple because it's just dark enough to give pop, but not too dark ya know?

Also want to pick up form Mehron Metallic green for monster outlining.

As promised here is a sample of a one stroke I made with Global Magenta, Pink, light yellow and (I think) Tag white. I love how the light yellow makes it more creamy and natural looking without being overpoweringly yellow (incidentally I haven't had gooping issues with light yellow yet... Which is a little odd considering the problems I've had with regular yellow and white). Please forgive my messy flowers, I was only doing quickies...

Argh! Forest Fairy, that's hilarious!!! And so true at the moment! I do have to admit though that I am currently using a somewhat crappy craft snowflake stencil rather than the bam one simply because the bam one always seems to be out of stock... I still get good results from it, its virtually the only stencil that gets any real use but it is just a little large for my liking, .

One girl I work with has a 'thing' about stencils and seems to feel that using them is cheating somehow. Oh well, my stencil snowflakes are always quick and even, plus I've never had any complaints from clients. I do think that some artists can tend to overuse stencils though. I was watching a FABAtv class where the girl teaching spent 25 minutes laying 'textures' on a mask before actually painting everything, then proceeded to cover it all up with glitter and paint anyway, at the end it was just a big hot mess. I only finished watching the section because some artists really pull it together at the linework stage and make it look amazing and I wanted to give her a chance... points for effort though, it must be really tough to stand in front of a camera and pull a design together while explaining what you're doing

lol, thank you ^.^ *tips hat* I always try to make my posts funny if I can.

Yeah, now matter what brand it is, the snowflake stencil in the one that gets the most use it seems.

LOL at "Cheating". Well duh, of course, it's a total cheat! That's the point Razz . But the trick with stencils is to use them as a tool; they are there to add an extra topping to your work, not be the main course.

In our line of work you want SPEED to go with your detail. Having a few simple stencils facilitates that nicely.

But if you want to talk about 'cheating' what about rainbow cakes? Or one strokes? How is that not cheating? This one lady whom I share a farmers market with (she's gets one week I get the other), has actually told people "Oh some times they have this other face painter here, but she uses cheap tricks for her blending. Call me old school, but I prefer the real artists way."

Me Thinks
Global Bodyart & Tag Swatches Someone-is-jelly-thumb

One of my regulars told me she said that. I was dumbfounded. She takes like 15-20 per face to attempt what I do, and people don't like waiting in her long lines any more. So they only get their kids painted when I'm there now. lol She hates me.

"What's that? My rainbow cakes and stencils are cheating and cheap tricks? Sorry, I can't hear you over the huge line of kids I have and the sound of all this money." Very Happy

Forest-Fairy, they have light yellow here. I buy from this store quite often since they carry some stuff that Metina doesn't.

Dear Forest Fairy:
The FacePaintForumShop has Light Yellow, if you are looking for an American Supplier.
If you are looking for a Canadian Supplier...
the Hokey Pokey Shop in Vaughan, Ontario
and....
I adore Global Dark Blue... it is a dark blue that dries with a purplish shimmer, just like a ball point pen.
Global Purple is an excellent, rich, saturated Blurple.
Global Magenta is an opaque, vibrant colour.
These colours will remain in my kit forever.
I love them more than I love cookies.
And,
I love cookies.

@Forest Fairy
LoL I'm onboard for cheap tricks all the way. If whe wants to blend like a 'real' artist then perhaps she should save her paint for a real canvas...

There is something to be said about a better mousetrap. Maybe she should be grinding her own paints from berries if she is so 'old school'. Personally I am all about giving the best product as quickly as I can because nobody likes to wait in line. The way I see it this business is all about production. The faster and better you are, the more money and gigs you will get.

Dear nikkili26:
If I notice the colour is 'sinking' into the skin, I will pop a little matching metallic colour over the top of the design. If I want to make sure a neon colour stands out, I will lay down a base of the matching metallic colour first. If I do not have the matching colour, I will use pearl white, or metallic gold, depending upon the intended colour.
To make my TAG Neon Carnival rainbow cake stand out, I have laid down a base of TAG Pearl Jewel (I switched the order of the colours around to match the order of the Carnival cake), and THEN put the Carnival cake over the Jewel cake. It does take longer to dry, so I pouf on some glitter, or do a tiny clean up of my kit to kill time so my linework does not run all over the place.

And you know what, Forest Fairy? The greatest thing about split cakes is that they actually paint themselves on the children's faces! I mean, you don't need a design, you don't need a brush, you don't need any skill--you don't even need a person! You just set them down on the table, and presto, gorgeous designs just appear on the children's faces! It's magic, so much better than the old-fashioned way Smile
