What is your favorite one stroke/ flat brush?
Hello everyone,
i'm in the market for some new brushes, above all a flat/ one- stroke brush. I need both a new 3/4 and a 1". I've found your reviews to be really helpful on here before and everyone agrees that a one-stroke brush is essential, but I haven't seen a thread about one strokes, so I will go ahead and start one. I've been using a paradise 3/4 brush which gets the job done but seems a little too soft, it's still new but I have a feeling it wont last long. So would some of you be so kind to share with us your favorite and least favorite one stroke/ flat brushes? There's been a lot of talk about flora brushes which I would like to try, does anyone have experience with these?
Many thanks for any input!
-Kasia

The ones I use here in this video and actually supply for my one-stroke workshops. I find I only use flats for rainbows anymore.

My favorite are the protege gold nylon 3/4 and 1/2 inch. They have short bristles and the brush is thin. The handles of these brushes are really cheap and they start peeling after a few uses but I just replaced the handle with a Crayola marker cap
I also like the snazaroo 3/4 white handle brush. I have had that brush for over 4 years and handle still intact, no peeling at all.
Laura from jacana art sells the set of 2, amazing has them too.
Good luck!

Connoisseur Protege Short Handle Gold Nylon Brushes are my favorite too maggie.
The shorter bristles are the BEST. The wooden handle isn't the worst I've seen, but being wood i know that it will wear out faster. It is easy to repaint, or even replace the handle with an acrylic one. I painted my handles with clear nail polish to stop them from flaking, works great! Still totally worth it in the end. I can never go back to the longer bristles, i'm hooked. I have 3 of these sets in my kit, and more in storage for when they eventually die.
Contact Laura about buying some. She's seriously the only vendor on the internet you can get them from that i know of lol.

Re: What is your favorite one stroke/ flat brush?
I love the Royal soft grip 3/4 inch flats, and the paradise 1" flat brush. I find the TAG #12 a little thick on the tip but I do use it in my kit. Both have acrylic handles, the TAG one does not.
When buying new brushes from an art store the biggest thing to look out for is the length of the bristles (shorter bristles = more control) and that the tip is very flat and very thin. Brushes that are too bulky hold too much water and eat up your paint.
