North East Convention 2015
Hello lovely painty people! I am curious to see who is attending the convention in CT in January? I haven't attended any classes yet and am curious what should I expect? Looks like a great lineup of teachers and classes. Thank you
Re: North East Convention 2015
I am. LOL! I haven't been but what I'm doing as an instructor is teaching demo classes during the day and then intensive $75.00 classes in the evening. There will also be pre and post workshops. I was thinking of having a One Stroke Revolution Workshop as my pre-class and then teach the same class broken into two parts in the evenings. I think that's why the actual conference is cheaper so that you can use the rest for taking the intensive classes you want MORE of.
Re: North East Convention 2015
Thank you Denise! I saw you were one of the instructors I liked that is was fairly priced and the classes looked good. Hoping to have everything together to go. Saw that you were doing a bunch of starblends classes too. Love your work
Re: North East Convention 2015
I have been and it was the absolute most fun I've had in years! The instructors are all great - but it really is the "after class" stuff that made it so memorable. It's a smaller convention, as far as attendance goes, but that's what makes us bond.
It's good to know that the hotel has no restaurant (but some rooms have fridges and microwaves) and there is NOTHING in the immediate area, so you must drive a bit to get to even a convenience store, fast food or restaurant.

Hey Jenn, just found out that Kim is having a newbie sale for the Convention through Thanksgiving. Only $100 for first-time attendees. Here's the event page:

I hope you can see it. The discount code is "Convention" when you register. My classes are up on here now (the pre/post & evening):

Re: North East Convention 2015
I have to wait until next week to register due to money, hopefully there will still be spots available! I'm super nervous that my work won't be up to par but as it's so close to home I can't resist!
Also, if you head north Enfield, CT is only about 10-15mi away. Lots of restaurants and even grocery stores up there that are fairly easy to get to. Way better than going to Hartford! (There's a pizza place called Gio's Brick oven pizzeria that if wicked good and only 10 mins away in East Granby) My husband worked for Fed Ex at Bradley for years so I know a bit about the area

Re: North East Convention 2015
Hi Misha, I hear you about the nervousness, but I think this will be great for people of all skill levels. I am very new to face-painting and am frequently amazed at the art produced on this site and many others. Beyond that though, the people seem even nicer than their art.
Re: North East Convention 2015
Dear Misha:
Everybody started somewhere. Most artists remember that feeling of being brand new. It is a pleasure to be around a new artist who is soaking up all the knowledge and revelling in learning. It inspires me to be around somebody who is just learning their craft. The conventions are for EVERYBODY! The part that nobody told me about was the part where you meet new people who are as passionate about this art as I am.
We all have a lot to learn.
Happy Painting!

Re: North East Convention 2015
I'll be there again. It's a great convention for new painters and seasoned painters alike. It's not huge, so there's no crowd to get lost in and it's a cozy environment to hang out in. I go now for more social reasons, but it's still cool to have the option of being able to paint without having to pay my kids for the priviledge of using their 'canvases'. You're not going to find a less expensive convention and Kim is really good at making it accessible to the new attendees...$200 is a steal if you don't have to fly in like I do, and if you get a roomie or two, you're looking at $35-$50 per night or less for lodging. It's so worth it for me because airfare to Florida for FABAIC was going to cost more than the Connecticut conventions registration and lodging rate...that's not counting the registration and class fees!
Re: North East Convention 2015
Is there a schedule of events posted anywhere that anyone knows of? Thanks.
Re: North East Convention 2015
Yes, go to Chit Chat the Clown's site and select Connecticut (CT) Convention from the menu to your left. There's a list of pay classes as well as convention seminars. Be advised, the class times on the list of in-convention classes may shift around a bit...usually it's all nailed down by a day or two before the convention.
Re: North East Convention 2015
Here's the link. I've heard there are only about 6 spots left: http://www.chitchattheclown.com/face-painting-conventions-s/1975.htm
My classes are on the 3rd page of the paid classes. I'll be teaching a couple of Starblend classes, Sugar Skulls & how to edit images during the day classes.

Re: North East Convention 2015
Yay! So I am planning to come saturday into sunday! SO excited my first ever convention. Thank you Denise for your help Look forward to meeting you and all the other painters
Re: North East Convention 2015
I was going to ask if anyone ever just goes for Saturday and Sunday?....Vacation time from my weekday job is precious.
Re: North East Convention 2015
Shadowdrawing I emailed Kim Hatch (aka Chit Chat the Clown) about only going going for the weekend and she said since I was a newbie it only cost $100 instead of $160. It used to $75 a day but since the fee for newbies is much less they took the $75 off the website. They only have like four spots left and a few hotel rooms. It looks like it will be a fun time. Hope it works for you
Re: North East Convention 2015
What a great time!!! The people were very friendly, and every class I took was informative and helpful. It kills me that I lost my photos from the body painting jam. If anyone has some they would be willing to share, I am specifically looking for the art that Margie Nugent and Mark Reid did that night. Thanks! you can message me at KiDooodles@aol.com
