What do you do with glitter gel/liquid bling?
Hiya,
Just wondering how everyone applies this. Any photos you can share with examples would be most appreciated.

Re: What do you do with glitter gel/liquid bling?
I used it as dots on the design and lips. But it is hard to photograph.
Re: What do you do with glitter gel/liquid bling?
I personally don't use it. I have some, but I find it doesn't dry fast enough for some of the fidgets in my chair I just use dry glitter and water.

Re: What do you do with glitter gel/liquid bling?
I just saw a video using it, and it said it takes 5 minutes to dry, but it looked really nice. I'd probably only use it for adult designs.
Re: What do you do with glitter gel/liquid bling?
Agree, it dries to slow. But on older kids it is okay, if you tell them about it. With some of the small children, it would also work, since some expect the facepaint itself take so long to dry. I have kids coming back after half an hour, asking if I think the facepaint (not even using the bling) is dry now *lol*

Jenn, Can you post that video here? Click the video link near the picutures link and past the code there.
Re: What do you do with glitter gel/liquid bling?
One of Heather's best to date - very inspired to use the brown paint and recreate the henna look and IT JUST POPS with the gold, copper, bronze backgrounds!!
Re: What do you do with glitter gel/liquid bling?
I love this just ordered the cake today and bling. I have a bar mitzvah fair this month and I am so doing variations on this.
Re: What do you do with glitter gel/liquid bling?
What's bling made of anyway? glitter and..... gooey stuff? I mean, could you make your own?
Re: What do you do with glitter gel/liquid bling?
I think you can make your own using "Super Duper Mega Hold" Hair gel.
here's a link to a henna site with a how-to.

never tried it.... but i dunno why - sometimes when I BUY things I have more faith in them than if I made it.... maybe it's just me

Re: What do you do with glitter gel/liquid bling?
I make my own glitter gel! I bought a jar of glycerin suppositories (I know it sounds gross but they're just individual capsules of glycerine-nothing else added and work perfectly!), aloe vera gel, and glitter.
I use a coffee cup and just heat one glycerine suppository in the microwave for 10 seconds, then add about 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel and glitter and stir very well. Sometimes I might have to add a drop or two more of the aloe vera gel but this makes the right consistency. I bought tiny plastic jars with screw-top lids and I put the different colors of glitter gel inside and that's one of the things I give to my "birthday" girl at parties or to people who purchase the "premium face" package. I also put it into empty containers and use a tiny brush to place it on the face exactly where I want it. Easy and, economical (I think I paid $6 total for the glycerine and aloe vera gel and it will make enough for 100 containers!)

Thanks Squiggle! I'm a DIY kinda girl... esp when it can save some money. And I think I saw empty metal tipped containters at the craft store.
I love this place!

Squiggle, great idea. Have to try that when I run out of the other.
I would not recommend hair gel on the face. It is okay on the body, but the face is too sensitive.

Re: What do you do with glitter gel/liquid bling?
You can buy glycerin in a container in the pharmacy at walmart to forgo the melting and such.
Re: What do you do with glitter gel/liquid bling?
I also make my own glitter gel. It is just super hair gel, as mentioned before.
I also make something we call "gilding" in henna. You use the gel and mica powders, like those from Ben Nye.
1) Take either the glitter, or the powder, and put about a tea spoon in small cup. Then add about a teaspoon of pretty stuff and mix it up.
2) Take about a 12 x 12 piece of plastic wrap, (a plastic veggie bag works better) the kind for food.
3) Spoon your mixture into the middle, or if you have found a bag into a corner.
4) Twist the platic so the goop is all into a small, tight ball. Carefully cut a TINY litte hole.
5) Squeeze your mixture into your old Bling bottles.
I use the gildiing for my Venitian Masks to create a bit of 3-D-ness. It is not VERY 3-D. But it is a bit.

Re: What do you do with glitter gel/liquid bling?
Just to add my 2 cents - I would not recommend hair gel for use on the face. Eyes, lips, cheeks etc. are typically more sensitive than scalps. Also, a lot of the commercial hair gels available contain drying agents.

Re: What do you do with glitter gel/liquid bling?
Yes my old partner made a bunch up in wilton cake decorating bottles. Just aloe vera gel and glitter, worked like a charm. I haven't found loose glitter that's cheap or wanted to buy in bulk enough to go make my own.
Here is clear liquid bling on a web to look more shiny weblike. (I painted my shirt too, just for spider days)
Here is a WOLFE inspired doodle with gold bling. Girls just love this one.

Re: What do you do with glitter gel/liquid bling?
I tried Aloe alone, but it will not set up.
I am pretty sure Bling has hair gel in it. But when I asked, they did not reply. I looked up the ingrediants in the hair gel I use and the main one is the same thing used in most moisturizers. There is no warning about use on skin.
Which ingrediants in your hair gel have you heard there are problems with?

Re: What do you do with glitter gel/liquid bling?
"Acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymers is a film forming agent which leaves a pliable, cohesive, and continuous protective covering over skin and hair. The film produces excellent water-binding properties, which leaves baby’s skin moisturized and very smooth. Additionally, this polymer thickens and stabilizes creams, lotions, and gels."
A lot of hair gels also has this thickener in it and this is why it is working for you. I think the one thing to be careful with the gel is the amount of alcohol in it which can be drying. But it is approved for cosmetic purposes and don't think it should really be a problem. I know of another artist that only uses glitter in hair gel. It can dry a lot quicker than just the aloe as well.

Re: What do you do with glitter gel/liquid bling?
I have had an model reacting (skin irritations) with hair gel on the face, but I don't know the ingredient that was causing it.
Re: What do you do with glitter gel/liquid bling?
Yep no to the hair gel - often is alcoholin it, not good near eyes/ on faces; is why the Mehron/ Graftobian mixers for their powders are not reccommended on face either.
Some of the good face / body paint shops do stock a gel that is safe, to make your own bling.
I keep bling for adults/ posher designs. Am not wasting it on kids; even if they did sit for the extra time, even if they didn't smudge it before it dried, theyoften pick it off.
i love it for the extra 3D dimension it often adds.
