First couple attempts

So here are some pictures of my first attempts.  NOTE: I did NOT create either of these, but got the ideas from either this forum or google.  I claim 0% originality but I need to practice

My lines need a lot of work but I think my brushes aren't very good either.  Don't think I picked the right kind for this kind of work.

Brushes make a world of difference! I really like the Loew Cornell 700 series and the gold handled ones. #3 and #4 rounds do great lines, #1 rounds for really fine lines and #6 rounds for teardrops and dots. Ultra rounds are good for line work but not for dots. All the brushes I really like came from online and not the craft store (facepaint is really a different medium from other paints and good brushes for the medium you are using is important).

Your penguin is adorable and good work on the one stroke butterfly.

thanks.  I have to wait to order new brushes and more colors so my designs will be limited for a bit.

I agree with Thouart that good brushes are so important. But you did very well for your first attempts. I guess you know about YouTube? You can get a lot out of it in the beginning. There is also a YouTube video called Brushes 101 by Silly Heather. She's great, look her up you will love her. I have a subscription to a face painting class for almost 2 years now. She is right about the brushes too, only buy on-line and stay away from craft store brushes. I love the gold brushes, Royal Majestic and Marc Reid. I have tried many brands but I think we all have our favorites when it comes to brushes. So play around with brushes and don't order a lot of one kind at first. You will find the ones you love and hate. You said you have been painting since Dec. Well each month you will see great improvement. It's all about practice and more practice.

Good brushes can make a real difference but i think your paint isn't wet enough. The right consistancy can also make a big difference. And the right kind of facepaint ;)I always used Grimas in the past but it isn't a good paint for linework. So i switched brand and bought a lot of partyXplosion and cameleon paint. And my brushes are facepaint brushes but they aren't the best but if you use a good synthetic brush with a point and use it the right way it can make a big difference.

You are the third person that has mentioned Cameleon in the last few days on different threads. How is their white and black? How are all those colors. I have heard a few people say they are tired of Wolf not being there and tried Cameleon and like it. I never have. How does it compare for line work and blending?

I never used black or white, i bought splitcakes and love them really much! Specially the peacock, Fresh grass and the Jelly fish. Roses, princes bride and Snowflake are still on my wishlist.

Thanks! I think you are totally right about the paint not being wet enough. I was much more agressive with water today and the lines were a lot better. I'm using good paints but my brushes aren't so I have a couple on order to see if I like them better.

I use chameleon white, and I LOVE IT....

I also use diamond fx white I LOVE IT and wolfe white I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!lol...

I also love starblend white and snazaroo white for my bases-they are very smooth application and quick to apply.

I have used all of those too. I don't want DFX in my kit anymore and Wolf white is always out of stock specially when I need it the most. When I do order I order the biggest pots and 2 of them at a time, when they have it. Then when I see my Wolf running low and try to order, out of stock for months. Wolf is the best for line-work and it is opaque for other great designs. I use starblend's for certain designs only it's a powder. I do not like Snazaroo at all with the exception of a few colors. I love Paradise for blending but it's not opaque. I love Paradise black for blending and I use it. I also use many Fab and Tag FPs' that I love but not white or black. These FP's are the standard in the US and I have tried each and everyone of those, but I am looking for something to replace Wolf White and black. All the other brands that is mentioned is so out of Wolf's league... Nothing compares to Wolf in my opinion at least not yet. I also love Wolf's red, blue, pink, gray and a few others that I just can't do in any other brands.

The penguin seems really adorable to me. I also like the purple flowers in the last pic. I am not a pro but would wear either of those designs and be happy
