Love Belly Painting, but hard to find willing bellies :/
I love painting baby bumps, but when I talk to moms about the idea they are generally very against it (I'm in California... go figure). I've only had two willing (and quite excited) moms (one in a mall booth setting, which was quite a surprise) - most expecting moms I approach (including family members) state they don't want to do it because a) it's kinda weird to be a canvas, b) they are self-conscious of their bellies and don't want to show it to me or anyone else in photos. Here's a couple bellies I've painted... my question: how do you convince moms that once their bumps are painted, all anyone sees is a colorful canvas, and that it can be a really fun and unique way to celebrate their impending bundle of cuteness?

There are several children's resale events in the spring. I was thinking about setting up a table and a private booth area behind my table to do painting. They advertise to past customers, so I was going to put an ad in their flyer to get presets. Has anyone tried this type of venue?

First- YES- BEAUTIFUL work!
Second- Don't convince them... put yourself out there and let the ones who ARE comfortable, artistic, willing-to-bare-their-belly, people find YOU!
Child birth teachers, photographers who do natal portraits and maternity stores would all be good places to network with.
Also, try Model Mayhem. Many models find themselves out of commission when they get pregnant, and this could be a chance to model while expecting!

I posted an ad in the kids for sale section of craigslist that I was looking for pregnant belly models. I'm building my portfolio so I offered free paintings in exchange for lots of photos. Also, try teaming up with a local photographer and offer package deals.

I'm doing my 1st childrens consignment event next weekend. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I've never done belly painting (I will when I feel ready for it), but if I was a pregnant woman I would only let people paint soft and friendly designs. So I think it's easier for you if you let them choose the basic design. And if you know the pregnant woman personally they maybe feel more comfortable with it.
