Refreshing the water

Hi,

I am just wondering....

During the few gigs I did so far, I had a can with water for rincing the brushes and sponges. After every child I threw the dirty water in a bucket, and filled the can with clean, fresh water.

Do you do change that water so often too or less often?

nope.but my water doesn't get dirty til the 10th kid.

here's my routine.

kid sits down, tells me design.
I spray my sponge, dip in paint, lay down base.
I take my brush, dip in water, load it well. if it is too thick or dry, I spray with water and reload.

when I'm done, I rinse the paint in the first tiny well, run it over the ridges of the second big well, swirl in the third tiny well, and sit it in a cup of alcohol for a minute, then air dry.

same for loading arty cakes and one strokes....



I don't double dip or reuse brushes, but I also don't go back and forth in the rinse water.


if a kid looks yucky, I either arrange my design to avoid nasty areas, or I retire the brush into my dirty q tip and dirty wipes bag and sanitize after the event.

I don't display designs, I just paint on request or suggest my fastest favorites.if time allows, I get fancy

I do a 3 part rinse for each brush, with a dip in sanitizer at the end, then let them dry. I have separate ones for black and white, but always dip in sanitizer after each use. I never put the brush for black or white into the 3 part tub. If the water in my 3 part gets too "painted", I dump it all and start fresh. It lasts a long time this way without getting muddy.

Just wondering if the alcohol is safe for the brushes? This is the first time I see alcohol mentioned... I'm intrigued :-)

What do you mean safe for brushes?


I never spend more than 12$ on brushes. I can afford to replace them, with the rate I charge.

the only thing I've found to destroy a brush is letting it sit in water too long, not fully cleaning the paint from the metal part, or dipping a white bristle brush into red paint.lol.




I use isoprophyl alcohol. I air dry. I'm concerned about shelf life, sure....but more concerned about germ spreading. the paints are antibacterial, but I just need the extra disinfecting.

I have a 3 gal beverage cooler I fill at home. This way I have enough water for my wash jars, spritzer bottle and washing my hands without having to run and get water. There is a spout in the side that makes it easy to fill the spritzer bottle as well. I use the Telanti gelato containers for my snazaroo paints and water washes.
