Fall Fest turned into a Costume Contest...
Has anyone ever face painted at an event that was having a Halloween costume contest?
I arranged to paint at a fall fest and was unaware that they were also having a costume contest during the event. Won't most of the attendants already be done up in face paint and masks? What was your experience?
Thanks!
Barb

Just expect to paint to match costumes. Those are the best types of events IMO.

I do a pumpkinfest with a Halloween costume parade and they kids all want to get something that goes with their outfit, or instead of a mask because its uncomfortable.

worst case scenario, just use onestrokes in the color of their costume, and paint around their eyes in a mask and embellish with teardops, swirls, dots or spikes.

Re: Fall Fest turned into a Costume Contest...
I did a Pay-per-face Halloween event where I gave out lots of candy but very few people wanted to get their faces painted. They either had a mask or already did their own face before they left the house. It was a total bust, of course the church that offered face painting for half my prices (as a fundraiser) didn’t help!

Thanks for the thoughts guys! Hopefully it won't be a bust.
Re: Fall Fest turned into a Costume Contest...
It was a bust...but it was more to do with the freezing temps and high winds rather then the event itself. A T-shirt, long sleeve t-shirt, fleece jacket, scarf, hat, two pairs of socks and a windbreaker was the outfit for the day. Painted a grand total of 9 people. We ended up dismantling most of my setup (including the canopy) mid way through due to the winds. I even had to take the banner off of my table because it kept flipping up onto my paints! Two other vendor's canopies broke but at least they didn't launch off the ground like at a previous event. So here is a new question...at what MPH winds do you call it quits? The wind was actually pushing my paint brush while I was trying to paint

But on a happy note...I tried my hand at one of the cat pictures that was posted as inspiration on a facebook page for the event.

Omg that is adorable!
I always request indoors...and only noon time for outdoor stuff.it gets freezing by 4 at this time of year!
As for the wind, I use gorilla tape.works excellent. I also over wet a tiny pallette for linework.
Ive grown fond of the wind lately!dries my bases so fast, I can bust through a line in record time!only issue is I cant add glitter.

Re: Fall Fest turned into a Costume Contest...
Yeah...the glitter was NOT working AT ALL! Switched to liquid bling instead.
