How to hand out more business cards!
Promoting ourselves can sometime be nerve racking. You want to give your business card to everyone you paint, but you feel a bit pushing doing so.
I got this idea from a painter friend in the UK.
Put the directions for removing face paint on the back of your card. This gives you the perfect excuse to hand everyone you paint and the adult with them a card as well as the mom for the goodie bags for parties. Of course they want the directions, even though we know it is no mystery.
This allows you to look like you are being responsible and professional rather than pushy.

Metina, Thanks for the FAB idea! I had the safe paint blog put on the card instead of name, address, etc and just ordered new glossy ones with info on the back for under 17.00!

Metina, What were you saying in this post? It is covered up by an ad for the Convention?
Thanks
Thanks

Thanks for as soon as I sent it out to you, the ad disappeared.
Great idea on the cards, I will see how much it add to the cards when I order them.

How do you condense the directions so that they fit on the back of a card in a readable size?
Would you share the "wording" that you use?

Directions for Removing Face Paint
-Lather face with a mild soap.
-Wipe with a wash cloth.
-Baby wipes are not recommended for removing face paint.
-If staining occurs, wash again the following day to aviod irritating delicate skin.
-Please DO NOT sleep in face paint.
This was borrowed and modified so feel free to do the same!

If you are comfortable, find excuses to give cards to people everywhere you go, even when you are NOT face painting!! Ask people what they do for a living... it'll eventually come back around to what YOU do for a living

I've used this idea, and it makes it look like you're doing the parent a favor by handing them your business card!

Re: How to hand out more business cards!
I have henna aftercare instructions on the back of my cards right now, but am ordering a second set of cards that is just about face painting as I have two 'sets' of customers. My Indian clientelle that hire me for the serious business of bridal henna want to see serious cards. The instructions make for a great way of getting your biz out there without being pushy. I also ALWAYS carry cards with me.

Hi Metina
Why do you suggest not using baby wipes to get face paint off?

Oooh, great idea. Soon I'll be printing up my very first batch of business cards and I already thought about putting removal instructions on the back since so many people ask about that, but I didn't think of it as a way to push out more cards!

Re: How to hand out more business cards!
For me, baby wipes (or wiping in general) usually pushes the paint into the pores and actually makes it harder to clean.
I put the removal instructions for face painting on one side and glitter tattoos on the other side. Hubby handed out our card with the instructions.
Here's mine:
Face Paint Removal Instructions
(Italics red) Don't scrub or use harsh cleaners!
The quality face paints we are using will remove easily with soap and water following these instructions: Use a very soft cloth or sponge with a little soap or baby shampoo on it. In a circular motion rub the design until it's lifted THEN rinse away with water or wipe off with the clean side of the cloth. Anything left? Try lotion and rub gently...let it do the work.
I like Metina's though...short and sweet. I'll probably modify it for the next printing.

I second what colden said about the baby wipes. Plus, when you're trying to take paint off that has been on for a few hours with just baby wipes, it's of course much harder to get off so you start scrubbing harder and causing some skin irritation.

Re: How to hand out more business cards!
I'm late getting to this thread but I just wanted to share how I have been getting my card to more people recently.
As soon as I finish painting the child's face I whip out my camera and ask the parents if they would like me to take a nice picture for them? I explain I will put it on my facebook page and they can download the photo from there. I also mention that I offer a voucher for a free face paint for new facebook fans and voila!! they leave card in hand and they look me up later!
It's not as simple as instructions on the back of the card and it's early days yet but so far it is working well to get my card out, build my database of customers and snap some nice pics for my developing portfolio:)
